This knife is made from CrMoV steel, the same high carbon steel u will find on Wuthstof knives that cost 3 times more.

Im an amature cook, and this knife is an excellent deal!

few complaints:

1. the blade is thick! I have used kershaw shun, wuthstof grand prix, and henckel professional knives before, and anolon's blade is almost twice as thick as other brands.

when u cut through dense root vegitables such as yam, beet and etc, this knife requires extra pressure to cut since the blade is so thick.

2. i found the "mirror finish" useless. this finish will give a nice satin look, but the moment u start to re-align ur knife, the steel will scratch this "shiny" finish and destroy the mirror finish.

bottom line, the high priced german and japanese knives are little bit easier to use, but if u r just a semi-professional home cook, this knife is excellent for you.

This is a nice set, and a real bargain when listed on the Friday Sale for twenty. Two things to be aware of: The knife is made in China from German steel, and mine arrived with a removable sticker on the box, "Our Special Gift to You when you purchase $200 or more of Analon products." You'd probably want to remove the sticker if this item is intended as a gift, and therefore not have the item shipped directly to the recipient.

If you like knives that hold their edge, have good balance, and feel more expensive than they really are, this knife's a smart purchase. We bought ours with the intent to get Henckels. My husband loves to cook and I have demanding standards for tools in my kitchen, especially knives. Anolon were half the price and every bit as good.

As their reputation spreads, the prices seem to be going consistently up.

I have used every major brand of cutlery and I can tell you there is no better value than analon knives. I have been cooking and managing restuarants for over 30 years and I have found that the $100 knives are no better than thr $25 ones. The analon product looks and feels just as nice as the most expnesive brands out there and is one third the price. Try them you will love them. I might add that all knives have to be reground from time to time as the edge will become blunt and no sharpener will restore it. When this happens find a local grinding service and have them restored. A good knife can last you a lifetime if you take care of it happy chopping Mike

Don't know a whole lot about knives but I know what I like. This is a really nice knife, it has good weight and a very comfortable grip. The blade is rather long, so I would suggest this as something to augment what you already have. The sheath is made of a sturdy hard plastic and locks solidly onto the blade.

The cutting board is a VERY nice added bonus. I got this when Amazon had it for 20 beans but I have noticed that it has gone up recently. If you see that it is this price again then I recommend that you snatch a set for yourself or your favorite cook.

Got this knife with the cutting board for 20 bucks (Friday sale). It is well worth the price. I was surprised that it was so large. My husband was even impressed with the quality!

I just completed purchase of my last knife in the Anolon set. I bought the 7 inch first it cut so well and had great balance and some weight to it. I'm a Barbequer and I handle a lot of different meats so a heavey knife comes in handy. As long as you use the propper chopping block this knife will stay sharp for a long time. I have the high end knife and I have put them away. This 10 inch is one of the best knives that I own in my vast collection.

This is the 2nd and 3rd set I have purchased from Anolon. They are great knives-super shape and an edge thats last, it seems forever. Great weight, very good control. After I got the first 3 piece set I bought 2 8 knife sets for my daughters. All three families love the quick work these knives make of kitchen food prep. Would recommend to others with no resevertions.

This is a perfectly balanced wonderful chef's knife. I highly recommend.

I bought the set during one of the Friday sales. Knife withstands moderate use very well with occasional honing.

Although the cutting board doesn't have a groove near the edges, the texture of bamboo helps liquids stay on the surface of the board.
