DJ Logic's work on Medeski Martin and Wood's album "Combustication" was only a peek into the brilliance that's on this new album. "Anomaly" is just that. It defies description, tearing through jazz/funk romps, tigt hip hop, ambient chill, drum 'n' bass, Middle Eastern stomp tunes, and even Israeli violin, without ever sounding out of place. This is a must have in your cd collection. And it's about time a turntablist elevated spinning to the high art form that DJ Logic has--and got credit for it.
Genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Generation of Funk May 23, 2001
Format:Audio CD
This album is SOOOO dope.
About a 1/3 heavy funky grooves (French Quarter, Michele)
Another 1/3 ambient/chill contemplative music (Black Budah, Soul Kissing
Another 1/3 Kind of dark forboding sounds (Hip Hopera, Miles Away)
-If you liked the last album but thought it lacked actaul songs you will love the new release. Its less ecletic than the previous but the songs are tighter, and the diminished number of guests gives the album a more coherent sound.
Great Buy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great disc June 20, 2001
Format:Audio CD
These guys know what's up...They are the nicest group of musicians I've ever met, and DJ Logic is definitely the best DJ around right now. The Anomaly is certainly pleasing to the ears, each track just flows right into the next, and before you know it, you're hitting the play button to start it over again! I would say if you love drum and bass, jazz, hip-hop and funk, then this album is perfect for you. There are even a few special guests, John Medeski, Vernon Reid- (another great fella, I've had the opportunity to meet him as well, and John) and a violin player takes over bringing a sweet melody in one of the songs. The Hip-Hopera song is awesome, it's got a female opera singer mixed with some Wu-Tang-ish beats, only from the Logic would you get something so eclectic...a great disc to show all your friends and make them wonder where on Earth something so cool came about...See them in concert too, if you get the chance. It's a totally different experience. Great energy throughout. Love it...Can't say enough good things about these guys and their music. Much love- Jen

3.0 out of 5 stars DJ Logic's colorful spin on jazz September 6, 2003
Format:Audio CD
I saw DJ Logic open for the Dave Matthews Band, and I immediately knew that this is an artist worth checking into. Along with the music, seeing people dancing in their seats was what sold me. 'The Anomaly' basically captures the improvisational spirit of jazz, the groovy rhythms of funk, all under the framework of instrumental hip-hop. Just think St Germain meets RJD2 meets Cut Chemist. Blended into the mix is everything from Miles Davis trumpet bursts, Sly Stone basslines, to DJ turntable scratching. DJ Logic achieves the ultimate celebratory experience...turntabilism you can dance to.

5.0 out of 5 stars logical choice June 22, 2001
Format:Audio CD
Though i've seen dj logic a whole bunch of times (mostly w/ other bands/artists) i've never really heard any of his albums. after reading a good review and feeling in the mood, i purchased it recently. anomaly is worth the listen - many different sounding tunes, a little up beat "dubtribe soundsystem" in a few songs, some classic jazzy funk tunes, some spacy jams, and some cool voiceovers on other taracks. the whole thing blends nicely to create a total package. he's a hard working man, and deserves all the accolades he gets - esp. for this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could Be Up Your Alley; Too Mature for Me January 31, 2004
Format:Audio CD
I only know Logic from this album and I must say he is not cutting things up too hard here. Most of the stuff here is at about the energy level of Air or like the mellower cuts on the last DJ Shadow record. This is not rowdy enough stuff for my taste. I was looking for a crazier turntablist pastiche, ala Peanut Butter Wolf or Australia's The Avalanches. If you want nutty cuts that are surprising and will move your feet and have strong beats, check out towards the end of the album, the cuts Hip-Hopera and Miles Away, which is all full of "Sketches of Spain" horns. Those two have me making spastic motions on the train if I have the headphones on but the rest of the album is for Medeski, Martin, and Wood fans only. Medeski actually guests on a track or two here even.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Apostle of Logic June 25, 2001
Format:Audio CD
I first heard Logic live in cincy. this man is the new messiah of jazz. fascinating, eclectic, powerful...Every album i own by this man is unique and daring. Fans of hip hop, jazz... whatever. good music. fans of good music will find logic is innovative while still paying respect to the past masters. dj logic is no gimmick. hes not blending styles or trying some novelty act. he is the real deal, a true innovator as this album clearly shows. buy it. and become one of the apostles of logic.
