2.0 out of 5 stars Is there a limit to what we will do for love?
From the opening scene, I was a little lost and had to re-read to figure out the setting. Moreover, honestly, it went down hill from there. Ms. Shivers' had an interesting premise for the story line but the characters were not "real". In addition, the dialogue was contrived and forced at times. "Anonymity" is the book and if you like intriguing, adventure and suspense combined with smooth connections as done by this author. Your in for a treat!

We open with some serious accusations being made against our herione-"Cara Fleming" who needs to know why, and who is behind the "slander trip" she feels is a threat to her marriage and her dignity.

She doesn't know, however, that in her moral quest she is going to run into some rude awakenings, violence, and even murder.

This is our authors maiden novel, but she guides us through this exciting search and adventure like a "pro" as she introduces us to the characters with whom we share the mystique as she and her detective friend Les Miller helps her find answers and some very climatic surprises that leads to the anticipation of the "next book".

If you like intriguing adventure and suspense combined with smooth connections as done by this author, you're in for a treat!

The book opens with some serious accusations made against the heroine, Clara Fleming who needs to know why and who is behind the "slander trip" she feels is a threat to her marriage and her dignity. She doesn't know, however that in her moral quest, she is going to run into some rude awakenings - violence and even murder.

This is the author's first novel, but she guides us through an exciting search for the culprit like a "pro". She introduces characters whom we can relate to. Her friend, Detective Lester Miller helps her find answers. Be prepared for some very climatic surprises that leads to the anticipation of a sequel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Is there a limit to what we will do for love?, November 28, 2003
This review is from: Anonymity (Paperback)
From the opening scene, I was a little lost and had to re-read to figure out the setting. Moreover, honestly, it went down hill from there. Ms. Shivers' had an interesting premise for the story line but the characters were not "real". In addition, the dialogue was contrived and forced at times. Although I did enjoy the premise, by the end of the novel, my thoughts were that the story was too far-fetched for my taste.

Cara Fleming loves her husband despite his many flaws and philandering and is trying to save the marriage. In turn, her husband comes home, accuses her of an affair without giving her any explanation and subsequently kicks her out. An alderman anonymously sets up a job for Cara just because but later we discover that he is her brother-in-law! He was kid-napped as a five-year-old and he and Cara happen to meet up in a chat room for people searching for biological parents. What is more, this is just a tiny hint of the drama that happens in "Anonymity".

In all fairness, someone else might enjoy reading the book. In fact, I did not find it hard to finish this novel because I had to wonder how far the author would go with the song and dance. A mistress contrives a devious and involved plan to make a husband leave a wife that he loves with all of his heart, a politician that was a teenaged pimp and his support staff that are involved in homosexual love affairs. If any of these multiple scenarios grab your interest, there is much more in Anonymity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing Light To A Dark Side Of Life, December 23, 2009
This review is from: Anonymity (Paperback)
I read Anonymity after reading Once Is Never Enough, and I found them both intriguing. Chicago, or at least its varied African American side, is expertly captured, the politics and the characters are true to life. I like the way Ms. Shivers handles language, with grace and ease.

Les Miller and Cara Fleming caught my fancy right away. Slander is so prevalent today and slander is what Cara was prey to up to her attractive neck. Her marriage, then her life was threatened by someone and she had no idea who. Accused of an affair she wasn't involved in, hung out to dry and put out by her trifling husband Mario, she had nowhere to turn. But by pluck, intelligence and luck, plus some help from Les, Cara manages to pull her salvation through.

The love in this novel is palpable and moving and my heart went out to Cara and Les when it was apparent they were hooked on each other. I love the book and I love the writing. What more can I say?

5.0 out of 5 stars Anonymity--One Thrilling Read, February 4, 2004
By
Rowena Winfrey (Corsicana, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anonymity (Paperback)
I have always believed that if a book had not captured my attention by the end of the first chapter, it may not be worth reading! I have always been a great lover of Romance and Mystery/Intrigue, and when I heard that Anonymity had both, I was convinced that it might be an interesing read.

Margie Gosa Shivers starts Anonymity like a typical romance novel--beautiful Cara Fleming, married to her college sweetheat, is fashionably dressed, waiting for her handsome husband to pick her up so that they cout attend a concert. From that point on, the book becomes a roller-coaster read that takes you through twists and turns until the end! Husband Mario accuses Cara of infidelity, and Cara must prove herself innocent while also trying to find out who set her up as having an affair!

All of the characters in the book are well defined, even the minor characters, and the plot is woven in such a way that every character's role and meaning in Cara's life is crystal clear! The subplots are also very interesting, and keep you wondering how they will finally be resolved at the end of the book!!

I stayed up well past midnight for two nights reading this book, only stopping when sleep prevented me from reading another page!! I recommend it to anyone who loves mystery and intrique, as well as those who love romance. There is plenty of each in Animosity, and you will have a hard time putting it down once you begin to read! Beautifully written, this was an excellent first novel, and I look forward to an Anonymity sequel as well as many other future works from Margie Gosa Shivers!!

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC WRITING, January 9, 2004

I would like to give my comments about the book Anonymity. This book was extremely well written and very good reading. It's something I would like to see come to the screen. You know like a made for TV movie (Lifetime get ready). When the book was first released, we were able to get a review of the first few chapters on-line. Once I started reading it was very difficult for me to get back to work doing my job. I couldn't wait to get my hands on my own personal copy. My friend and I were delighted to get a chance to meet Mrs. Shivers in person at her book signing out in Hyde Park, IL back in November 2002. I have my copy of the re-edited version and I can't wait to sink my teeth into it.=)

Looking forward to Mrs. Shivers' next novel! Go Get 'em Margie! (Let's Talk Book Club).
