Book Description

Sarah Tawkes has found her dream house; a former roadside tavern built near the Brandywine River. The home includes a completely refurbished full-length bar in the Common Room. Even her neighbor’s children are excited about the prospect of there being 200 year-old ghosts, among them British soldiers and Indians, haunting the long ago Inn.
After a costume party to celebrate her new home, Sarah, the director of a historical museum, awakes to discover herself transported back in time to the 18th Century… without running water, heat or tooth brushes… definitely all negative, But, a handsome, dark-eyed Indian balances the scale. She can’t take her eyes off of Silver Wolf, and wonders what it would be like to live with a Lenape Indian family on his ancestral plantation?
In the 18th Century this simply isn’t done by any decent Quaker woman, even if a war is waging all around them. Yet, Sarah has lost her heart to this dark-eyed savage who has his own reasons for hating all whites.
If she follows her desire what will happen to her prior life in the 21st Century? This fear haunts her every move and influences each decision she makes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent read July 7, 2013

The story was good and held my attention. My biggest problem was editing issues. Whoever proofread this story missed many spelling errors, usually 's' or 'ed' in places they didn't belong and missing commas, which changed the context of sentences.

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable June 11, 2013

I was amazed in the lack of proof reading done for this book. So many mistakes. The book was not boring but just couldn't get past the mistakes in grammar. I had to read sentences several timed to figure out exactly what she was saying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take a Chance On This One June 7, 2013

I am not a fan of time-travel books because I work so hard at trying to decipher the hows, whys, and wherefores (like what was Sarah Stone doing while Sarah Tawkes was inhabiting her body? Does that mean Luke Sykes is about to have an affair with his own great-great-great grandma? How can teacher Luke Sykes exist before Sarah Tawkes does her Groundhog Day thing?) that they make my head hurt. If I had a chance to ask the author questions about those H's, W's, and W's, I wouldn't, because I'm sure listening to the answers would make my head hurt, too. Now if one can just forget about deciphering the time travel thing and allow one's self to go with the flow, then this was really one cool little historical drama containing everything--romance, adventure, danger, and well-drawn characters. Even the snotty kid was real-kid, and let's face it, kids' characters are often the weakest part of many a novel. It was smart of the author to make the protagonist a historian of that area and time period, so that she could more easily slide into her role in colonial America. The author apparently did a lot of research to get the history right.

As a fan of time travels romance, this was a great book. The characters were interesting and believable. Even though it was a book of fiction , I found the history in the book very interesting. I read this book in one setting and could not put it down.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story if you can stomach the editing errors April 7, 2014
Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading about Sarah going back into time to the very home she purchased / area she lived in. It certainly gave her a true look into what the history of the area really was like, since she was a history guide. I thought it was interesting how she blended her relationship with her "father," Benjamin, with the family she didn't have while living in the present. I also loved her relationship with all the Lenape people at Long Meadow Plantation.

I liked how the author portrayed the British soldiers--so people today could understand how many of the colonials were treated on a daily basis. Obviously not all British soldiers were as nasty as these were, but colonists were definitely treated badly by those who felt it was their "right" to take whatever they wanted, as Britain "owned" the colonies and colonists.

I was a bit confused at the end as to whether Sarah Stone and Sarah Tawkes were supposed to be the same person, or a reincarnated version of the same person, or if it were just a dream, or what actually happened.

The worst part of the book was the editing. How do you not use basic punctuation? Words were missing, and wrong words were used. I started bookmarking each place I found an error, but stopped after 50. Clean up the editing and I will change my rating.

Weird ending but I figured it would happen that way. Time travel books are not my favorite type story. I finished it but won't read it again
