5.0 out of 5 stars The most heart-warming &heartbreaking marriage of 2 worlds, September 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Another Country (Audio CD)
Oh how Country and Celtic have so many children in common... And oh how brilliant of Paddy maloney to bring together to butter-soft voices of Country's most authentic tradition bearers to sing songs we all know highlighted by elder melodies that may have spawned them. Let me give youan example... When I first heard Don William's chococalety smooth Baritone luanch into "I can't stop loving you"... my heart ached so much as the Uilean pipes backed him in his pain and losss and oh how Emmylou's aching version of "Nobody's darlin' but my own was augmented magnicficently by the Irish instrumentation. when oh when will the OH BROTHER WEHREART THOU folks go over to Dublin and get Paddy Maloney to produce THE consummate Crossover album?? THis one is close and the big sing alone of Goodnight Irene reminded me of the sleepy ends of all night sibg alongs as I was carried off to be tuckec in by aunts and uncles who danced with me til my little feet failed me. The roots of Apppalachia and Erin are so obvious and this CD is a joy for us all. The Reeel that gets us all step-dancing only to find ourselves hearing Ricky Skaggs honoring us with an authentic rendition of The Wabash Canonball was just golden... Oh please do snap up this CD and swing your baby boys and girls in circles as you sing the songs of our joint heritages. Share with them some of what is being lost. THis CD is getting chipped out to all my many aunts and uncles who rocked me to sleep with Irish/apalachia hybrid tunes by way of thanks for the giving me a little something of who we were and who we remain. God bless Paddy Maloney.. and please paddy do an aneitre album of airs with Vince Gill so he can stop singing the garbage ghe has to just to stay on the american charts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exploring the links between country and Celtic, May 15, 2003
This review is from: Another Country (Audio CD)
Paddy Moloney and the lads haul over to Nashville where they round up Willie Nelson, Chet Atkins, Don Williams, Ricky Skaggs and a passel of newgrassers such as Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, etc. to jam with them on these pop-hick-Celtic crossovers. Generally a pretty strong album, with some interesting angles on familiar terrain. PS - maybe this is where Ricky Skaggs caught the Celtic bug!
