Where Will & Jack Feared to Tread,
By You can just look at the movie poster and recognize the stock characters here. But hey, "The Facts of Life," "Golden Girls," and "Waiting to Exhale" had stock characters and weren't bad. I loved the sassy, extroverted lesbian character in this film. For those who suffered from homophobic high school scenes, it is refreshing and joyful to see so many openly gay persons out in high school. When four gay friends try to lose their virginity, the obvious question becomes, "Why don't they lose it with each other?" The film does ask and answer that question. It doesn't leave the viewer hanging. There is a blind female character that some may read as able-ist. However, I think she was there to suggest "Only a blind woman would not know the gayness of the most flamboyant main character." In too many films, straight or gay, with female leads or male ones, the main character usually has their love requited and walks off into the sunset with their beloved. I loved how Ellen's coming out episode did not have that happen. Here too, the characters make fools of themselves like real people do. They don't all walk off into the sunset happily ever after. Their bedroom adventures don't necessarily lead to permanent love, just as in real life. In a movie so over-the-top, I appreciated this dose of reality. Still, these boys in their late teens sure get to do a lot of things that are not legal for people under age 21 to do. Straight men and women have an idea about how they are supposed to get down. However, gay men have a few options from which they must chose. I won't get explicit here, but I enjoyed seeing characters debate or brainstorm about their options. I liked that the movie does not condemn either act that males can do with each other. Internet articles say that audience members gasped when they saw "all" of Richard Hatch, but for those who have been dying to see all of him since his "Survivor" days, this will be a pleasant surprise. He does a daring act rarely seen in non-adult films. I think the angle at which his "presentation" was shot may have been more of a surprise than what he was presenting. He is America's most famous bear, so it was great seeing this side of him. However, he married a man in Canada, so I don't understand why the film doesn't address whether he was having an affair or not. This film is set in the very racially-diverse Southern California, so I didn't understand why all the leads were white. However, there were characters of color here. I didn't like the stereotypical Asian girl. I thought the Black character was African American, rather than Afro-Latino, so it surprised me that he called another male "Papi" all the time. As heavily Latino as Southern Cal is, it made no sense that there were no Latino characters. Still, this work is not half as homogenous as many gay media works in existence. This movie may have stolen an idea from the Black and Latino gay film "The Ski Trip." This was a gay coming-of-age story that I appreciated as much as "My Life on Ice"/"Ma Vraie Vie en Rouen." Do see it and form your own opinion.

If straight movies were gay....,

Many people find this movie too gross and sleazy. But what it is is a gay version of "American Pie" and is no more gross than that film. It's just more GAY! And just like "American Pie" it is just as dumb and juvenile.
It has some amusing scenes and some just gross out scenes but only one truly funny scene... where one of the guys has picked up a muscle-bound club junkie who does some poppers and collapses while dancing to too loud thumping club music. The EM guys who arrive on the scene [also hunky] fight over who's gonna revive him with mouth to mouth and the prep for the defibrillator is hysterical. [They use sexual lube] No sooner revived, they all instantly start dancing to the pounding club beat.... while the protagonist looks on all this in horror. Too funny. But alas, that's it.

gay comedy at it's BEST,

A man once said that the best therapy is when you can learn to laugh at yourself and feel good about it. This movie-for "those of us"-will split guts from being turned into laughing machines!
it is chock-full of 'inside jokes' and acted out "behaviors" that the straight world only whispers about, but WE live and LOVE to do! From naughty Twinks seducing old Trolls, to parents finding their gay teen in bed with diverse "objects," this movie changes all our old memories of growing up gay to delightful remaniscances! To put it in a nutshell, this movie is the high school prom that we always wanted to go to, but never had the chance to go to!

Reviewers have called it "the gay 'American Pie'", but a more proper name might be "Gay Anerican Quiche" as that dish is used in the same way as an apple pie in that teen flick. And, believe it or not, that is NOT the low point of the film!
The basic plot of the film: A group of gay friends are graduating from high school, and form a pact to make sure they lose their "anal virginity" before the summer is over and they go off to college. The main character is Andy, who has a crush on a Russian teacher (played to the hilt by Graham Norton) and whose father (played by gay comic Scott Thompson) tries to keep him from stealing all of the carrots and cucumbers in the house, by buying him a HUGE buttplug. Jarod is a varsity athlete, Griff the shy closet romantic who strives for a "bubble butt", and Nico is a queeny punkish partyboy, with a blind girlfriend and a mom who seems clueless to her son's sexuality. They get advice from their bulldyke best friend Muffler, who seems to be able to seduce any woman, straight or gay. Their dates include guest stars Matthew Rush (a gay porn star), Richard Hatch ("Survivor") and James Getzlaff ("Boy Meets Boy"). To be honest, ANOTHER GAY MOVIE is often HILLARIOUSLY FUNNY in its outrageousness, and the (I'd bet 100% gay) small crowd at the theatre during the showing I attended laughed a lot and seemed to enjoy it, though I doubt any of them would have rated it higher than I did. In my opinion, the humor would register more with older gays (30+) who can identify (Been there, done that) with the cluelessness of the young main characters, as opposed to informed teens and 20-somethings who grew up in more open times and had resources like the internet. Also, I'd bet that there was at least one or two scenes most viewers would have preferred weren't there, be it the overdone bathroom humor, a naked Richard Hatch waiting for Nico to have sex with him, or the two guys at the bar with NAMBLA (a group that advocates sex with young boys) t-shirts advising Griff that he is "way too old" at 17. Beyond the sight gags and gross-outs, the story is predictable, with a lot of overacting, scenes meant to shock rather than add anything to the film, and lots of unrealistic scenarios. But I did love the theme song, "Another Gay Sunshine Day" sung by Nancy Sinatra. :) The theatrical film is not rated, but would be courting an NC-17 due to abundant frontal nudity, simulated sex, grahic sex talk and over-the-top S&M content (Trust me: you'll never look at Graham Norton quite the same way again!)

a real let down,

This was supposed to be the gay American Pie, unfortunately it tries so hard it just isn't funny. The few briefs moments of humour were great but the film just wasn't consistent. The blind girl was unecessary, Muffler was way over the top and if supposed to be real she was way too scarey and would be unlikely to be friends with the boys in the film especially characters such as Nico and Nicos Mum having her brief moment as a parody of Debbie from Queer as Folk was just pointless.
American Pie was a real parody of the angst young people go through in having sex for the first time and yes I know it was about straight boys and it is so much easier for them but this film without much humour failed to get across any message. I did however love the fact the main characters could be so openly gay at school without any grief. If only the real world was the same.

If you like over the top comedies this one is for you,
This review is from: Another Gay Movie (Unrated Widescreen Edition) (DVD)
I loved this movie, I thought it was hysterical. It is very raunchy and there are some parts that offended other viewers, but it is made in the fashion of "American Pie", "White Chicks" etc. with the physical gags and "bathroom" humor. The cast did a great job as did the director, it's no BrokeBack Mountain but it wasn't meant to be. As a comedy, it's successful and as a gay movie I think it's great.

I guess it really is a measure of just how far gay cinema has come when a film like "Another Gay Movie" can get a fair amount of theater play and sell heavily on DVD. I mean, this is a totally over-the-top, overacted, gross-out and incorrect movie that makes "American Pie" look like Henry VIII. If you have ever seen any straight movie where the over-hormomic teens make a goal about betting laid before the end of summer, just substitute gay kids for the straight ones and you have the basics of AGM.
What really will irk the PC crowd (and even made me squirm a bit) was that no topic was off limits. I flinched at the following; Gerbil Joke, Nambla joke and Belgian Chocolate joke. As someone who went through the late 80's having to shout down idiots who kept that Gerbil Joke alive (and it cost a Philadelphia Newsman his job because a variant of the story got pinned on him), I fail to see the humor. On the other hand, the amount of corn this movie lays on makes it almost impossible not to start snickering, even when the humor is lowest common denominator juvenilia. Yes, gay movies can now make the same stupid fart jokes that show up in bad Eddie Murphy flicks. Like I said, maybe that's progress. Then again, maybe it ain't so bad after all. Better that young gay people see something like this as an entry into Gay Cinema than the bitter "Boys In The Band" (my entry into gay movies, a film I credit for pushing me into another four years of denial), or the tragic cinema that has produced classics like Philadelphia or even Brokeback Mountain. My partner's gay daughters watched this with us and they thought it was a scream. Which lead me to another pair of observations: Crikey. I'm getting old. "Another Gay Movie" is really for kids. And a gay flick that targets young people coming of age? Not bad, not bad at all. As Nancy Sinatra sings in the opening credits, "it's a gay sunshine day."

This movie covers every gay fable, myth or rumour of just about everything in the gay wikpedia of life.,

I don't often write reviews, but I felt I had to put my two cents in. It's so easy to buy a bad gay movie these days. Never buy a DVD by it's cover. I always wait for the customer reviews on Amazon to find out if it's good or not. Make sure there are lots of reviews (minimum 30) with no less than 3.5 stars on average. So I felt I had to let customers know that this movie is good, so it can start building a good review history.
"Another Gay Movie" is just plain funny... and silly. It really is a gay "American Pie" type movie, which was crude too, but was very popular with the audiences none the less, (as I'm sure this one will be too). The acting was good... no one was lacking in talent. All the characters were likeable (well maybe not Richard Hatch)! This movie covers every gay fable, myth or rumour of just about everything in the gay wikpedia of life (gerbaling, water sports, BDSM, vanilla to Belgian chocolate, Paul Lynde, Betty Davis, bubble butts, Mommy Dearest, toilet trading, over douching, pumps). You name it and the movie made fun of it. The cinematography was good, considering this movie is low budget. The characters lived in over colour/color saturated Brady Bunch Bungalow houses (a la "Edward Scissorhands"). It's hard to believe the movie was shot in 16 days. These are some very hard working people who made this film! If you enjoy comedy... and you want to spend an evening having a good laugh, then buy this movie. You won't regret it. It's now in my top 10 best gay movies ever! ENJOY!

At last a gay spoof that captures just about every gay related theme, including all the gay urban myths we have all heard or told growing up gay! All the cast are brilliant and i take my hat off to James (boy meets boy)for playing such a great character and baring all for all us fans of B M B!
The movie is slick, funny, beautifully produced with amazing sets that totally compliment the hilliarious scenes that unfold with each new storyline. This is a film to watch with all your gay mates, you will laugh and cry, howl and hoot along with all the hillarious and embarassing moments that unfold and remind you of your own similar experiences. It's great to be able to laugh and even better to be able to laugh at our selves. I CAN'T WAIT! FOR THE SEQUEL! Dean Geyer, Sydney Australia
