This isn't going to be a huge, detailed and in-depth review. In order to really understand what is going on in Another Jekyll, Another Hyde, you had to of read the first two books in the Another Series. I believe Another Jekyll, Another Hyde is going to be the final book in this series because of the books ending. All three books weave together and are very, very loose retellings of classical novels, including Another Faust (Faust which is a German legend), Another Pan (Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie) and Another Jekyll, Another Hyde (Jekyll and Hyde by Robert Lois Stevenson). If you dive into these books and expect them to be exact modern day retellings of the original stories, you will probably be very disappointed. They each have some elements of the classical tales, but the authors took very creative liberties in writing these books. I know that some people have been disappointed or has not liked these books because they are very different from the originals. Just keep an open mind when reading this series.

The villain in each book pretty much stays the same. In Another Faust, you get to know Madame Vileroy who is the guardian of five teens who have sold their soul to her in exchange for things that they want. In Another Pan, you meet Lucy and John Darling who attend the same school that was featured in the first book, called Marlow. The school nurse turns out to be Madame Vileroy, who is once again seeking bone dust to keep her young and beautiful. Peter comes in as a new kid who also is seeking bone dust as well as the "nurse."

In the final (I think?) book, Another Jekyll, Another Hyde, we get to meet Thomas whose father is getting married to Madame Vileroy. Of course, they don't really know that Madame Vileroy is absolutely evil.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.

Quick & Dirty: The evil step-mother returns in this dark teen drama to take on a new victim, from the inside, and she’s never been more desperate to succeed.

Opening Sentence: A two-faced moon hung over the black-and-white city, in turns shining as bold as the sun and hiding, shamed, behind the veil of cirrus clouds.

The Review:

The best part of this book is probably the idea for this book. The storyline is extremely well-thought out, as is every book in the Another series on account of its highly intelligent authors. They once again succeed in taking their original premise, combining it with the plot of a well-known classic, and combining it with all the characters to make Another Jekyll, Another Hyde into something completely new and interesting. As part of the Another trilogy, this book probably could be read apart from the series, but not nearly as well as the second. There are many more references to events and characters in Another Faust, so many parts of the plot rely on the plot and premise of the first book. The Nayeris did carry over the atmosphere of the series to each book in the trilogy. We once again see a mostly internal dilemma existing in this book, as hinted at by the title.

Because so much of this book is interesting and thoughtful, it is rather difficult to pinpoint exactly why it fell a little short, but I would have to say it was mostly a lack of character focus. Although the main character, Thomas, is somewhat likeable, much more so than any of the characters in Another Faust, he still remains somewhat elusive.

I recently read and reviewed the first book in this series, Another Faust, in preparation for reading this book. My eye had been on it for awhile, and when I got an advance copy of Another Jekyll, Another Hyde, I knew it was time to get around to reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and wish I had time to read book number two, Another Pan. I understood what was going on in Another Jekyll, Another Hyde, but there were a few holes, so I will definitely go back and read Another Pan, but I think you really only NEED to read Another Faust to read this book.

Another Jekyll, Another Hyde was fantastic. I liked it slightly better than Another Faust because there wasn't a lot of backstory to bog it down, so it was a quicker, more action-packed read. Where the pacing in Another Faust kind of ebbed and flowed, the pacing in this book was non-stop, all while keeping the mystery and intrigue alive until the last page. This is the kind of book series that would make a brilliant movie franchise because of how well written the world and the action sequences are. They kind of read like a movie, and you become very involved. This book took me maybe a day and a half to read because I found it impossible to put down; if I had, I would have had a knot of anticipation in my gut until I was able to pick it back up. The story was great, and I always felt an intense need to know what was going to happen next. The Nayeris delivered in spades; they provided plausible answers that often opened up other questions. The conclusion, however, was extremely satisfying. It wasn't too neat and it didn't feel at all rushed. It was exactly the type of ending a series like this should have.

The characters were mostly the same as those in Another Faust.
