5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read - Could not put it down!
This was the first Donna Anders book that I have read - and it was excellent. I finished it in one day. I am not starting to read The Flower Man, I just hope it is a good as this one. If you like suspense and mystery this is a MUST read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Liked the book but...
I did like this book - I read it in one sitting - however, I find it difficult to believe that in this day and time the police in 1 city (not to mention 2!) would be as condescending to a domestic crime victim as they are in this book and would not take wife/child abuse accusations seriously. Other than that this book is a suspenseful, fast read, with the reader...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Easy Reading, September 19, 2001
This was an easy to follow non confusing mystery. Nothing spectacular, yet interesting enough to keep me reading to the end. This was probably not the first time a plot like this was written, but that is the case with most books. I would recommend this for those of you looking for a quick read on a lazy afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling and Suspensful!, August 22, 2001
By
I have read both of Donna Ander's other thrillers, "The Flower Man" and "Dead Silence" but this book is far better. Even though they were both suspensful, they were not as well written as this book. This book is so superior in it's writing that it is hard to believe the same author created it. The characters are well developed and the protagonist, Sharon, is so loveable. I found myself rooting for her and almost crying out when I thought her evil husband, Paul, would catch her at something she was not supposed to be doing! This was an intense read and I could not put it down! I never wanted it to end and the characters became as real people to me. That is a sign of a great book. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and it is worth buying! I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars a suspenseful thriller, August 21, 2006
I have read several books by Donna Anders, and this is the best one yet. All of her books are thrilling and scary, but as another reviewer noted, this one seems better written. Rather than an elaborate techno-plot, this is the story of an abused wife who takes her little boy and starts a new life, only to find danger in her new life too. The husband in this book uses all the tools of a pathological narcissist, "gaslighting" his wife to make her unsure of herself, and using a gullible doctor and neighbor to establish a history of instability. For readers who have never experienced or witnessed such activities, the plot seems farfetched, but to those who have dealt with a narcissist it is all too realistic. The author creates characters who are more three-dimensional than you find in most thrillers, and the settings for the book are very detailed and realistic. I thought it was a very good thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars The gal sure knows how to write a suspense thriller!, November 7, 1999
By A Customer
I read Anders' other suspense book, The Flower Man and liked it a lot but I just came across Another Life in Miami when I was catching a plane and it IS GREAT! I don't know how she comes up with her ideas, but she can make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

She is one fine writer. Hope she comes out with another book SOON. I like to think nothing much scares me but I wouldn't want to be reading this alone on my boat at night. But I guess that's the point of a mystery and this author knows what she is doing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick, suspenseful read!, March 17, 2000
By
This was my first Donna Anders book and I was very impressed with the author. She kept it both suspenseful and very descriptive, a wonderful combination and not often achieved by mystery writers, without leaving room for boredom somewhere in the novel. This was an overnight novel for me and I would rate Ms. Anders right up there with Carlene Thompson! Fast acting, realistic, insightful, an excellent psychological thriller!

2.0 out of 5 stars Implausible Story Line, October 11, 2006
By
S. Yeany (Lancaster, PA) - See all my reviews
I actually requested this book from my local library based on the many good reviews posted here. I was very disappointed with the story line. In this age of high tech survellance, it seems to me extremely unlikely that a person could do what the main character in this story accomplishes. It takes a real suspension of one's common sense to enjoy this book, as it asks you to believe that a person could (totally at random) take on the identity of another person who looks uncannily like her and is in the same business. Puleeeze...this did it for me for the remainder of the book. Hard to finish it as I couldn't get beyond the purported 'coincidences'.

This book is just great. While reading it I was living the life of Janice. Great Job Donna Anders. I will look forward to seeing this book made into a movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Read, February 12, 1999
A real page turner! I couldn't put it down. A gripping tale, made all the more intense by knowing that it was based on a true story. Anders entertains, while opening our eyes to the very real nightmare that many women face.
