Mother's Finest put out some of the best music that many never heard in the mid-to-late 70s. Based in the Atlanta area, their music is rock with a strong soul influence that was somewhat reminiscent of Sly and the Family Stone. But whereas the earlier band worked from a more traditional r&b instrumental base - horns, rhythm-oriented chugga chugga rhythm based guitar, gospel-tinged Hammond organ - MF was a hard rock band: slashing guitars with soaring leads and synthesizer-heavy keyboards. The best songs of MF are classics that never grow old. However, writing was never their strong suit. Whereas Sly & the Family Stone bridged their multi-racial audiences through an extended series of hit singles, MF's following never rose above cult status and their rousing live shows were mainly limited to the club circuit.

Another Mother Further is top heavy, with most of the best tracks in the first half, although none of it is bad by any means. If you are new to the band, start with Not Yer Mothers Funk, as it adds other great songs to *most* of the best ones from this CD. But Another Mother Further is a must-have for MF fans.

I saw this band six times and every time I came out covered in sweat and exhausted. Sweet Baby Jean commanded an audience like I've seen no other do, "turn off the music, we don't need no damn music" as the crowd (stadium full) swayed to the chorus of "Give you all the love inside of me". The energy this band possessed is truly incredible. Buy this CD, you will burn it up. The live CD is also good and gives a view of their live show - From FunkRock Georgia, Mothers Finest! Please, please someone issue their first album on CD, self entitled Mothers Finest.

MOTHERS FINEST- UNDOUBTABLYTHE *FINEST* FUNK GROUP EVER. JOYCE AKA BABY JEAN, HAS THE BEST SET OF PIPES I`VE EVER HEARD. THIS ALBUM MAKES ME WANT TO STOMP MY FEET AND SING ALONG AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS. (WHICH I DID!)
