I'm a musician who lives in Tampa. Sometimes I go out of town to play shows, and usually I bring two outfits but about 100 CDS with me for the car trip.
I played in Miami a couple weeks ago, and I found myself with 6 hours before the show and nothing to do. I drove down to the Florida Keys, alone. And one of the only CDS I had with me was the "Another Night" CD by The Real McCoy. Everyone knows all the hits, but later on in the CD there's some pretty ambient and trancey sounds. It was a really magical day, riding through the swamps and waters of the southern most part of our country, with the trance-like soundtrack of this CD (and the Pointer Sisters "Energy" album). "I want You" especially sticks out in my head...with its dissont church bell interlude and almost baby-like female chant vocals. This CD certainly is a piece of pop fluff, but of the most endearing kind. The hooks are priceless, the Deep Bass male vocals of the raps are so campy and ridiculous. But in the 1990s, we danced like our lives depended on it, and many times it did. This was the soundtrack of great times, great loves, and a time when things were so idealistically great all we could do was smile and dance... "Run away...run away...run away if you want to survive"... My drive to the keys is a day I will never forget...

Playing It Another Night And Another Night...,

Simply explosive, energetic and sparkling! This Real McCoy 1995 debut recently made it to my CD rotor and stayed there for months. The formulaic yet catchy music will simply spice you up and make you motion your body all around. Unlike many formulaic dance-pops that top the chart for a few weeks and disappear like a falling comet, Real McCoy is simply amazing. You will pick up the tune and begin to hymn along after listening to the CD a couple times. The album has a unified theme: energetic and fast-beat tempo with female vocal during the chrous and male rap for the bridge. Each song comes with magically catchy but unique tune that will not wear you out. Album title song "Another Night" has topped the billboard for several weeks staright when it debut in 1994. It has remained one of my favorite disco dance-pop. "Come and Get Your Love", "Run Away", "Ooh Boy", "Love and Devotion" are all powerful dance-hits that will keep your body motioning. Real McCoy is O-Jay (Olaf Jeglitza), Patsy (Patricia Petersen) and Vanessa (Vanessa Mason).

Enjoyable 90's Club Music,
This review is from: Another Night (Audio CD)
This CD may have came out in 1995 but the song "Another Night" was a club staple for most of the 90's. Real McCoy also had a hit with the song "Runaway." This CD just totally takes me back to my 90's club days. It's an enjoyable CD and I still listen to it when I work out.

A Must Have For Dance/Euro-Pop Music Listeners,

As a big fan of this group I was a little disappointed when I heard this. I had already had most of the songs on the album because they had been realeased on an album entitled "Space Invaders" under the group's former name M.C. Sar & The Real MCcoy. But that is the only bad thing I can actually say about this album. The title track "Another Night" is a great introduction to start off the album and the rest of the songs just keep you dancing. Run Away is a great song that still to this day can be heard on radio stations and in dance clubs although the House mix to the track is not the best I've heard it's still pretty good. Real Mccoy also did a very good job on the cover songs they put on this album turning great disco songs into amazing dance/euro-pop tracks. "Come And Get Your Love" is the best cover song they did. Originally done by Redbone, Real Mccoy managed to put some energy into the song and make one of their most memorable songs. The other two cover songs, "If You Should Ever Be Lonely" and "Ooh Boy" are good but don't have the same kind of energy and catchy rythms that "Come And Get Your Love" has. "Love And Devotion" is a very good song but I'm not quite sure how to describe it. It's not quite dance, not quite pop, and has an R&B type feel to it. "Operator" has an extreme dance, almost a techno feel to it. It is full of energy and if you can't dance to this song there is definately something wrong. Also on the album there are a couple of ballad type songs which are very good. "Sleeping With An Angel" and "I Want You" are great songs that make you want to listen to them over and over again. "Sleeping With An Angel" has been criticized for being "Sexually Explicit" but is actually a beautiful song with just the right mix of piano, strings, bass and beat and is a great song for all of those hopeless romantics out there. "I Want You" is more electronic than "Sleeping With An Angel" and has a few of its own sexual inuendos. You can't really dance to it but it is great to listen to. As far as dance tracks go the songs are great. "Automatic Lover (Call For Love)" is very danceable is another one of those tracks that you can't not dance to. Of all the dance tracks on this album "Megablast" is my personal favorite. There isn't much to it in the way of lyrics but is one of the best songs on the album. All in all this is a great album and would be a great investment for all of you Dance/Pop fans

I do agree that it is sad to know that the original singer was not Patsy nor Vanessa but Karin Kasar. Well, the music is still something you can enjoy. I found also a blog, where o-jay (olaf jeglitza) himself is writing about the history of real mccoy. www.the-realmccoy.blogspot.com. It is pretty fun to read and also to get some more details about the group.

I bought this CD after finishing 6th grade about 9 years ago and loved the album as a whole. Europop was all over the airwaves in Canada, it's hard to believe it wasn't the same in the US. Another Night was very very popular, and I was obsessed with the song for quite some time. Runaway and Come Get Your Love were also very popular singles. I popped in this CD after it collected dust for a few years and I loved it all over again. I didn't appreciate the song I Want You when I first got the CD but almost 10 years later I've come to appreciate it. If You Should Ever Be Lonely and Sleeping With an Angel are catchy and melodic, Ooh Boy and Love Devotion make you get your groove on. It's a very good dance music album, their female vocalists may not have strong voices, but this is fun, easy listening music that you can relax to or dance to or put on when you're feeling excited, so I take it for what it is, great dance music. Also if you love music from this time period, check out fun factory(close to you, take your chance), darkness(in my dreams), whigfield(saturday night, another day), crystal waters(gypsy woman, 100% pure love), etc.

Do you love early to mid 90s Euro pop from artists like Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited and Ace of Base? Do you love the Real McCoy's early hit singles? If so, you'll probably love this album. This album was given to me as a birthday present some seven years ago and I must have played it literally hundreds of times, and I still play it now! And I don't listen to it to reminisce, I listen to it because I love the songs. I'm surprised that some people say all the songs sound the same. . . That's never crossed my mind! I've never found the songs repetitive and/or annoying! I actually find that there's variety throughout the album. Some songs are more pop than dance and vice versa; Sleeping With An Angel is fairly slow and slightly ballad-ish while Megablast is more of a pumping club track. I listen to the whole album from start to finish as I love all the songs, but Another Night, I Want You and the house mix of Run Away are marginal favorites. The only song I skip sometimes is the house mix of Another Night ("D'oh!"). If you really like this style of music and don't have this album, get it! |
