Just Another Part of Me,
By
This review is from: Another Part of Me (Paperback)
ANOTHER PART OF ME by Nazirah Mottenon is a story of two very different young women and best friends. Dana West is a sexy around-the-way girl. The type of girl that seems to have it together, she has a nice car, designer clothes, and a nice apartment in a decent neighborhood. The only thing is she is still suffering from the loss of her mother and the fact that she does not know who her father is. This leaves her literally without much family. The one man that she was in love with cheated on her, leaving her heartbroken and lonely. So in turn, she does the ultimate payback to him, but in truth it only makes her look like a fool. Will she learn, before it is too late, that happiness does not come in the form of being with a man just to have a man?Shawn Thomas is Dana's best friend. She is a single mother trying to raise her son the best way she can and refuses to get on public assistance. Instead she does the best with the little she has, by working hard at any job she can get. Shawn admires Dana's life, because it seems as if she has no worries or any real responsibilities like she does. Every time she seems to get caught up on the bills more debt piles up and she takes a few steps back trying to catch up. This makes Shawn more and more frustrated. With her parents and sister on her back, telling her what she should be doing with her life, Shawn is down on herself and life. She even begins to have suicidal thoughts. Will she be able to get out of her depression and see that just around the corner happiness is waiting for her? ANOTHER PART OF ME by Nazirah Mottenon was an exceptional debut novel. It was a little difficult to read in the beginning because the author kept switching back and forth between first and third person, and in some spots the story reads like a diary and then switches back over into story mode. Other than that, the story was a true-to-life novel that readers are sure to recognize as a part of themselves or someone that they know. This book was provided to me courtesy of the author for review purposes. Reviewed by Leona APOOO BookClub

Peace,
This review is from: Another Part of Me (Paperback)
Many books claim to have "realness" but this one is official. I couldn't put it down. This book speaks about the struggles that young kids across the nation go through. Life lessions are taught throughtout the book. It's a must read for anyone who is or has struggled in their youth.

Every Girl can relate to this book,

I just love a book that you know is going to keep you captivated right until the last page and this book sure does that. The two main characters, Dana and Shawn, I am sure we can all relate to in one way or another and the book just kept you wanting to turn the page to see what was happening next in their lives. Without giving too much away, the ending was a shock but a great twist to the story. Well done Nazirah, I can not wait for the next book!!

Another Part of Me,

I couldn't put this book down. I read it in two days. I loved Dana (the main character) and hated her all at the same time. What a piece of work that Dana was. I could truly relate to Shawn (Dana's best friend). Myrick was your typical dude. I think we've all dated a guy like him. And Marcus' character showed that there are good men out there.Overall, I think it was a great story, well told. Another Part of Me has all the ingredients of a "good book". I laughed, I cried, there were so many situations that I could relate to, and I was even able to take a little something away from it. I think Nazirah succeeded in making the characters feel real and believable. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I ordered a signed copy of the book from the author, and I sure am glad that I did! Nazirah is really going to go places with her writing. The book was funny and sad and I could almost pick out people in my own life that I could have interspersed with her characters since they were so easy to relate to! I didn't put the book down once I started reading it. I am waiting with much anticipation for her next book!

Dana West and Shawn Thomas are best friends. While it seems that Dana has always had the best, on the reverse, Shawn seemingly has suffered through the worst. When Shawn is down, Dana's words of wisdom help to pick her up and vice versa. Amazingly, the best friends never realized that while they are very different individuals, their lives are somewhat the same.A diva, Dana is usually involved with some money getting dude, shopping or clubbing. A pessimist, Shawn's time is usually spent complaining, eating and wallowing in misery. When the two worlds flip and Dana's life takes on Shawn's misery and Shawn's life takes on Dana's spice for life, the two bicker as they can't seem to hear what the other is saying. "Another Part of Me" by Nazirah Mottenon is not a bad read. My biggest issue is the story seems to start without the readers, and we come in somewhat in the middle. While readers are treated to Dana's past, you never fully understand exactly why Shawn is the way she is. I really enjoyed the way the characters grow and realize the error of their ways. With some fine tuning, I could see myself checking out Nazirah's next project. Reviewed by: Crystal 3.5 |
