Bonus Motorhead Live in '83 Disc is Fantastic,

The fantastic bonus live disc from 1983 with Brian Robertson on Guitar is worth the price of the package itself! I know Brian R. wasn't well received by most in the band but what a fantastic player. I think he was and still is great.
Another Perfect Day is a great album in itself. Highly recommended. A++++ You simply cannot go wrong with ANY Motorhead album if you like straight forward, kick-ass hard rock with a strong helping of punk rock attitude! Go Lemmy and Co.

A classic despite what Lemmy says,

Although Lemmy slags this album every opportunity he gets (watch the live DVD "Stage Fright" for further evidence), it is both a classic and oddity in the Motorhead oeuvre. The insertion of Robbo injected some new life into the formula - note the gorgeous arpeggios and melody on "Dancing on Your Grave" (hands down my favorite Motorhead track of all time). And quite a few of the songs are still live staples to this day - "One Track Mind" and "I Got Mine", for example. The live disc is quite awe inducing - although there aren't too many non-APD tracks on it, the ones that are there are very intriguing with Robbo's guitar noodling and interpretations. It's also great to hear some tracks that you won't find very often on live Motorhead recordings, such as the aforementioned "Dancing on Your Grave". Listening to the live disc, its very easy to see why Robbo and Lemmy weren't a good match - musically they were at too much at odds. Brian's virtuosity and melody contrasts with Lemmy's stripped down and straight forward rock and roll. But if you dig this era, like I do, another disc well worth checking out is their King Biscuit Flower Hour release.

The least classic of the classic Motörhead albums,

This album was never as succesfull as it should have been. In fact, it's one of Motorhead's best. But the experimentations of the band with a new guitarist and a new producer were very badly received when this album first came out.
And in fact it is true that the production of this album is not good. The bass is mixed way too much up front, so that the vocals and guitar are a bit drowned out. The sound is too thick and not transparent enough. But even if this album hasn't got the same raw, energetic sound of Motorhead's prior works, it contains some superb songs: the title song, Shine, Dancing on your Grave, Back at the Funny Farm, and the awesome all-time classic I Got Mine. Great guitar licks by Robertson even though the chemistry between Lemmy and Fast Eddie was better. This CD should be on your buying list right after Overkill, Ace of Spades, No sleep till Hammersmith (or better still, the Stage Fright live DVD), and Inferno, and just before Orgasmatron and On Parole. (The bonus CD is very nice to have too, one of the only live recordings with Robertson you can find. However, if you're only a casual fan, just limit yourself to the single-disc remastered version.)
