Very good defense of the faith -- not religion,
By
This review is from: Another Perfect Stranger (DVD)
In dealing with junior high, high school and college-age kids, this movie really answered some great questions about God's love for us in a crazy, evil world and really hit home on the religion vs. relationship aspect of our walk with God. I also just saw this on TBN tonight and will be first in line to order it and show my kids as they grapple with the same questions that every person does with their faith at one time or another. Very well done!

An Amazing Encounter With Jesus,
By Gary Conner "SuccessBookClub.Com" (Indianapolis, Indiana United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Another Perfect Stranger (DVD)
I just watched this movie and had to come to Amazon.com to say that this is an awesome movie for Christians and even for those who may be seeking to understand Christ.
As a Christian for over 40 years and as one who has the heart of a Pastor, this is the best display of what I think it would be like if Jesus were to visit a young lady in person in today's world. This movie made me feel the presence of God and love Him and Jesus even more. I'm sure I'll be purchasing this movie in the near future and sharing it with friends and family, both Christians and non-Christians. Please, find this movie some place and watch it. I just saw it on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). To check for future showings, go to [...]. As the webmaster for NationalChristianBookstore.com and an Amazon.com affiliate, I will be adding this DVD to our website, too.

"You Can Call Me Yesh" ~ Further Conversations With Christ,
This review is from: Another Perfect Stranger (DVD)
The '07 film `Another Perfect Stranger' is the sequel to `The Perfect Stranger' released in '05. We are told that ten years have passed since Nikki Cominsky underwent a life changing experience during dinner with Jesus and now its her daughter Sarah's turn to discover the spiritual dimension in her own life.
Yes, Jesus returns for a face to face conversation with another member of the Cominsky family on a journey from Michigan to Portland with a brief stop in Dallas, Texas in-between. Young Sarah is a recent high school graduate and budding artist who's undergoing a crisis of faith which has only been worsened by her Mother's sharing the story of her encounter with Christ the night before her departure. She is definitely not in the mood to be evangelized on her way to tour the prestigious Art Institute she's hoping to attend if her scholarship request is accepted. Unfortunately Sarah is seated between two men on the first leg of the flight, the one on her left happens to be a "religious" Christian who immediately irritates her with the normal church jargon she's trying to avoid. When he fails to convince the rebellious teen he decides to take a nap leaving her alone to converse with the up to now silent gentleman to her right. Yep, you guessed it, it's Jesus. Her initially reaction to the stranger is positive, she observes him teasing a cute little girl who keeps making funny noises in his direction and he responds in like manner. Yep, he's good with kids. When they finally get into a conversation he says, "I hate religion" which is another good sign to Sarah's way of thinking, a kindred spirit no doubt. Little does she know that he's pushing "relationship" not religion. A lively conversation ensues and when the plane lands for its brief stopover in Dallas Sarah says goodbye thinking this will be the end of their conversation. That turns out not to be the case. They run into each other at the airport cafeteria where Jesus treats her to a grande, non-fat, vanilla latte with sugar-free whipped cream and a double fudge scone. After a quick snap and some more lively conversation they leave to catch their next flight, yes they're both on their way to Portland, what a coincidence. Now what really makes one start to wonder about this whole chance encounter thing is the fact that this mysterious stranger just happens to have the seat next to her again! What are the odds on that? You think maybe she'd have started to figure it all out by now wouldn't you? Here are some of the more obvious clues to his identity; - Children love him (as already mentioned above), - He speaks to various passengers along the way in their native tongue. When Sarah asks him "how many languages do you speak" he responds, "I speak them all" (that's a BIG hint right there). - He describes himself as a counselor and says he works for his Father's "Management Operations". When asked what he manages he replies "everything." I don't know about you, but it seems like all the identifiable signs of a friendly savior are present: good listener, sympathetic nature, multi-lingual, insightful counselor and a natural with children. If that doesn't turn the light on, how about when he finally introduces himself with the statement "You can call me Yesh" (short for Yeshua, i.e. Jesus). Needless to say by the time Sarah figures it all out her life has been changed forever. Another success story for the Big Guy! All joking aside, this film and its predecessor are two of the more enjoyable Christain films I've seen. Ruby Marie Lewis (Sarah) and Jefferson Moore (Jesus) are both likable and engaging and the conversations are at times contrived but overall well thought out and non-offensive to those viewers who are non believers. Well worth a watch or two.

Excellent!
If you don't wear them out first, why not donate these DVDs to your local church library? (Both the Perfect Stranger and Another Perfect Stranger.) What better way to share your blessings than with this exceptional Mother/Daughter series. The young adult version shares the typical and sometimes sudden rebellion to the acceptance of Mom and Dad's religion.

This movie has the most powerful messages and ending I have ever seen in a movie.I will be buying the first one, 'A perfect stranger'I wish I had taught sooner, but this wouldve made great Christmas gifts.Listen carefully to Jesus' message on religion, I am so glad he said what he did. Get it, you wont be sorry..I have passed mine along to my neighbor.

Another perfect stranger? You bet!,

This is as good as the previous one, and leaves the viewer with a few emotions and thoughts. It deals with stuff we face on a daily basis and is very realistic, the script is sharp and I recommend watching this a few times to get all the subtle scenes and dialogue properly. A great film, I hope you love it as much as I do!

I've wondered many times what it must have been like to walk with the Lord when he was on earth, to feel his love permeating me just by standing next to him! I also have always had a "visual" learning style -- I learn best by watching how something is done. Well this movie satisfies both of those needs. (Well, almost.) Ever since watching this movie I've felt that I know the Lord much much better. I know from the Bible what he thinks of me and I've read about and accepted his unconditional love and forgiveness toward me. But after looking into the eyes of the actor who portrays Jesus, and watching how he responds throughout the movie to the young girl sitting next to him on the plane, I realize that I've been short-changing the Lord, and myself for that matter -- shortchanging who I am in Christ, and the fact that He truly does love us just because we're his children.
This movie is a portrayal of what Jesus really really thinks of us....and any negative father images deep inside of us that we may or may not be aware of (or admit to) quickly dissolve into an almost childish sense of admiration and vulnerability. Watching the dialog between the Lord and a young girl with some questions about her own worth gave me almost a sense of being "buttered-up" by the creator of the universe. And, given the chance, that's what He wants to do with all His children, isn't it?

Excellent storyline, could have used a huge hollywood budget (look at Bruce and Halle's movie by same name)...like ALL the 'Doom & Gloom, Hate' movies get with awards! EVEN Porn gets a bigger budget and more attention!

Good Movie, But Not Quite Doctrine,
By
This review is from: Another Perfect Stranger (DVD)
I enjoyed Another Perfect stranger, and its predecessor, The Perfect Stranger. I've never liked religious movies, personally. I always felt they came off as preaching, trying to force people to accept God and come back to religion. This movie was different. This movie encourages people to do what is more important than coming to church: it encourages people to come back to God. However, some of the things they say, while not heretical, aren't quite doctrine. For instance, "Jesus" says that he "hates religion." And yet he charged Peter with creating a new church. Maybe that church isn't perfect, but I think we do the best we can. That's where faith comes in.
On a technical level, I'm not terribly fond of the incredibly boring camera work. It feels like the camera operators were trained on soap operas. There are two or three angles most of the time, and it simply switches between them during dialogue. There are very few wider establishing shots, and those few are pretty plain. However, this isn't an action movie; it is literally just two people talking. And to be honest, I'm not sure I can think of any ways to improve the camera work that wouldn't be detrimental. All in all, it's a well done movie, and even if you feel it fails entirely on the religious aspect, it's still successful as a feel-good movie. And I feel good after watching this movie. |
