Welcome Back Peter Cetera -- Where Have You Been?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Another Perfect World (Audio CD)
After almost six years without the release of a full studio solo album (last studio album was One Clear Voice in 1995), Peter Cetera returns to the pop music charts with his latest effort, Another Perfect World. This album is a reminder of Cetera's earlier solo albums like "Solitude, Solitaire" (1986), "One More Story" (1988), and "World Falling Down" (1992). "Another Perfect World" is vintage Peter Cetera with sugary love ballads and deep, moving words which have made him a great success in pop music with Chicago and during the 1980's and early 1990's with his much praised and popular love ballads (ie. Glory of Love and One Good Woman). The songs on this new album bring out his great voice and brilliance. There is a return to the "brass" sounds from the Chicago days and no more country music "feel" (thankfully). Cetera's last two albums were disappointing because of the movements made towards country music that he acquired from his time in Nashville. Michael Omartian's production on this album steered Peter Cetera back to his popular and much more successfull love ballads and "pick-me up music" he is noted for during the 1980's.The album however, only has three out of ten songs written or co-written by Peter Cetera. There are also no duets with anyone on this album. Although the album has several good songs, they are not as great and remarkable as the love ballads and songs from the late 1980's and early 1990's that many Peter Cetera fans have loved to appreciate. The album is a great tranquil album that brings Cetera back to his "musical roots" with Chicago and his earlier solo works. I would recommend purchasing this album because it is "classic" Peter Cetera at its best, but it is not as "perfect" as his earlier ballads with Chicago and hits songs from his earlier solo career during the 1980's and 1990's.

Peter Cetera's best solo cd yet.,

Cetera's first full studio album since 95's ONE CLEAR VOICE.ANOTHER PERFECT DAY has Peter Cetera using a horn section to make this album the most "chicago-est"sounding of his solo career.FEELS LIKE RAIN is simply one of the greatest songs Cetera has sung since HARD HABIT TO BREAK.Cetera's voice is as good as ever, which is shown on the lead off single PERFECT WORLD,JUST LIKE LOVE and RULE THE WORLD.Michael Omartian's great production gives this album a more up to date sound than Cetera's recent albums. The moody feel of RAIN LOVE is terrific.ONLY HEAVEN KNOWS and WHATEVER GETS YOU THROUGH also have great vibes.Surprisingly though, there are not any of those patented Cetera duets on this album. Not even the fickle world of radio will be able to resist these great Peter Cetera songs, his strongest solo material yet.

Good Adult Contemp CD,

Cetera has gotten a bum rap from a lot of the Chicago faithful over the years. Truth is, while Chicago has been for all intents and purposes reduced to an oldies act Cetera has enjoyed some success on the solo front. His albums have all had their high points but are spotty in their quality of material. Another Perfect World is no different, a wonderful title track, but the cd does rely on outside material too much. It makes you wonder if Peter is plagued by writers block (he had the last 5-6 years to come up with material). That said, Rain Love, Feels Like Rain and Just Like Love are quality tracks. We could have done without a Beatles cover, but he does a nice job with it. There also tends to be a certain "sameness" to the tracks as the cd goes on, but by and large this is an enjoyable adult contemporary album...and Cetera's unique voice has aged well.

I Got The CD!,

I very highly recommend this CD. Peter has really done a wonderful job on this album. My favorite song is "Perfect World." I especially find the lyrics to this song so completely uplifting. I can really feel how truly grateful Peter is for all the important things in life. Everytime I play that song it always makes me realize the proper perspective I should have on life. It's a really good "wake up call" for me & it reminds me not to take things for granted. The song also reminds me of just how great the simple pleasures of life truly are. It's a great song to wake up to & start my day with. I really enjoy the rest of the songs too. Peter's dynamic voice along with some great guitar based melodies and horn sections all work really well together. It's GREAT to have you back Peter! I LOVE this CD!

I must admit that I bought this CD with the intent of copying one or two tracks off of it and then returning it to the music store for a full refund, as is the trend these days with so many people who are tired of paying full price for a CD that only has one or two good songs on it. Well, I decided to keep it because the CD has about 6 or 7 really good songs on it. The only problem I had with it was that Peter doesn't hit the high vocal ranges that he has in the past which make his sound so unique. But the quality of the songwriting and production makes this a good buy. Definitely one of his better solo releases...

Another Perfect Album,

This new Peter Cetera CD is a warm and wonderful delight from start to finish. It may not have chart climbing songs like previous efforts, but that does not mean a single thing. The song "Just Like Love" is a classic Cetera song. It's the best song he's done in a while. "Rule The World", with it's big power ballad opening, falls into that category as well. The last two songs are a little dark and somber. The songs all sound more polished than previous albums. Plus, a good number of them are also longer than most songs he's done. This is the strongest album he's done since "World Falling Down". His warm, amazing voice is in fine form here. He sounds incredible. As for the other reviews on this page, I have to say "Please!". The negative reviews are as wrong as can be. The album hasn't been shelved either. I don't know know where they came up with that one. If you are a Cetera fan, you will eat this one up. A mild tempo delight. Ignore the naysayers.

HE'S DONE IT AGAIN. HE HAS NEVER DISAPPOINTED THOSE OF US WHO ARE TRUE CETERA FANS. PETER CONTINUES TO SHOW US THE INTELLIGENT, CREATIVE MAN THAT HE REALLY IS. NO WONDER HE COMES UP WITH SUCH REAL BALLADS. THE COMPOSITION OF HIS MUSIC STANDS NO COMPETITION. THE LYRICS ARE LIFE. THIS MUSICAL GENIUS WILL NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME. I'M READY FOR HIS TOUR OR HIS NEXT C.D. ALREADY. MANY OF MY FRIENDS CAN'T STAND HIS MUSIC, BUT I'LL STAND UP TO HIS REAL MUSIC ANYDAY OVER TODAYS STANDARDS OF [STUFF] THAT IS NOW CALLED MUSIC. STAY THE WAY YOU ARE PETER! ...

Before this album was released, I was questioning what had happened to Peter Cetera. I picked up this album the first day it was out, listened to it and loved it the first time. I don't know what a few of the critics are griping about because the album is what is expected from Peter. I enjoyed every song and he really does bring back his familiar sounds, especially since he collaborated with Michael Omartian who produced his solo debut. I highly recommend it.

Another Perfect Album,

Peter Cetera has outdone himself once again. This album offers up the quality of music that his fans have come to expect from the former Chicago lead singer. There has been mention that only 3 songs from this album was written or cowritten by Cetera. He has done an outstanding job choosing songs that showcase his considerable vocal range. One of the factors that contribute to an album's success is knowing when to use outside material to produce the overall desired effect. With Another Perfect World the effect is Exceptional!
