Great album by one of the best jazz pianists, September 16, 2011

Anthony Wonsey is one of my favorites among the current generation of jazz pianists [he was born in Chicago in 1972]. He is a gifted musician and is equally successful playing standards from the jazz canon as well as his own compositions.
This album is highly recommended as is the other trio album Anthony Wonsey releasesd on the Evidence label a year before this one; it's entitled "Anthonyology."
I also like "Open the Gates," the quintet album he recorded for the Dutch label CrissCross Jazz.
By the way, CrissCross has released over 400 jazz albums. Judging by the ones I have heard, virtually all of them are worth acquiring. A number of musicians--Jimmy Greene, John Swana, Kenny Garrett to name three--recorded their debut albums for CrissCross when they are still relatively unknown and then achieved greater recognition thereafter.
