4.0 out of 5 stars A must for Hiroshima and Jazz fans alike!
"Another Place" was my first Hiroshima CD, but it certainly wasn't my last! The instrumental "One Wish" is their greatest musical masterpiece ever, and I doubt that they'll ever top it. Barbara Long did an excellent job in performing "Save Yourself For Me". This song is great to listen to when you're with someone special, on a couch or sharing a blanket while sitting...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fusion, not fission
I love Hiroshima's Eastern-Western fusion style. This was the first CD of Hiroshima's I'd listened to; it didn't take me very long to fall in love with the group. I give this 3 stars mainly in praise of my favorite track (One Wish). The rest of the CD is certainly enjoyable but mediocre in comparison, I think. "Another Place" was my first Hiroshima CD, but it certainly wasn't my last! The instrumental "One Wish" is their greatest musical masterpiece ever, and I doubt that they'll ever top it. Barbara Long did an excellent job in performing "Save Yourself For Me". This song is great to listen to when you're with someone special, on a couch or sharing a blanket while sitting underneath a sea of stars.

Though this album's instrumentals are sensational, I decided to give it four stars. I enjoyed "Save Yourself For Me" & "Stay Away", but the rest of the songs with lyrics are rather hokey, and they don't do justice for Barbara Long's tremendous talent for singing.

That aside, "Another Place" is a classic & memorable piece from Hiroshima.

5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional Japanese Music + Jazz = Fusion, November 16, 2005

Although Fusion Jazz wasn't used much when this album came out in 1985, Hiroshima was definitely a pioneer in that area. They were the first Japanese group to have a video on BET (Black Entertainment Television). The Best cuts on this album are One Wish and Another Place. A great album to listen to!!

4.0 out of 5 stars classic hiroshima, June 25, 2003

This review is from: Another Place (Audio CD)
If you like smooth jazz with an interesting twist, you will love this CD. The Japanese instruments and vocals by June are the wonderful combination. This CD is a great introduction to Hiroshima and is perfect to listen to even though it was cut almost two decades ago.

Before smooth jazz there was Hiroshima doing there thing, this was the lp that introduced me to them and I love this record 21yrs later! the intrumentals are still played to this day, the vocals, 'Save Yourself For Me' got great airplay in 1985 featuring the amazing voice of Barbara Long, 'The Game', 'Undercover', 'What's It To Ya, & 'Touch and Go' have that great 80's keyboard sound, 'Stay Away' is wonderful, a great record in the Hiroshima catalog!

I own this album, as well as the 1st 3 albums by Hiroshima.I think that they are one of the finest jazz groups that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. While it is possible that maybe a couple of Cd's they have released could be interpreted as a little uneven, I think that overall they have displayed a great deal of consistency over the last 30 + years. This CD is their crowning achievement I think. Also the 1st(self-titled) CD and East are among the finest work that the jazz fusion genre has produced. A SUPER GROUP

This has inspired me beyond words. Unfortunately many of their other CDs don't do the same. I am still checking them out however!

5.0 out of 5 stars great music and also spiritual reality of a 2 year old, November 3, 2001

My favorite music is vocal jazz and this is the best example of that around. I also "interpret" this for 2-year olds as follows.

Touch and Go -- learning to touch noses. Paying attention to God with a lively interest, not bringing up irrelevant frivolous issues.

Stay Away -- learning to walk on your own. Finding suitable substitutes when you lose your crutches, instead of guilt-tripping people and/or God. Soul sensitivity.

Save Yourself for Me -- learning to take a bath, go to bed, and get some rest after a long day. Having goodwill toward others with more privileges and confessing your eavesdropping.

The Game -- learning to eat without food fights and cleanup and share leftovers. Learning not blame someone else for the mess you make, or admit your part in it. Harmony without waste or deadlock. Doing without if you don't behave.

What's It To Ya -- learning to tolerate the excruciating pain/accidents of the potty process. Grin and bear it instinct. Having spirit without veiled threats of revenge. Suffering indignities and injustice courageously. Don't claim it didn't happen, trying to dispute the bare facts.

Undercover -- Learning to enjoy dreaming but still get up in the morning. Change your mind -- don't be a slackard. Get flexible and in-sync with God's assumptions about your responsibilities, and exercize your gifts.

One Wish, I Do Remember -- Learning to pray that blood doesn't mean death when you brush your teeth without saying no or lieing. Be quiet and do it earnestly. Don't lie. Don't expect good results without earnest effort.
