I LOVE this book! The flowers and techniques are wonderful. I have the first of this series, BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS by Susan Taylor Propst, which was the start of the flower applique projects for me! Gorgeous full color photos and great detailed instructions and templates. You can make quilts, wallhangings, pillows, etc. Highly recommend if you love to applique.

In the intro Susan says, "These designs are great for hand appliqué, but can also be done with fusible appliqué. One of the best things about appliqué, and flowers in particular, is that the result doesn't have to look exactly like the pattern. Flowers are quite varied, so relax and enjoy the appliqué." Here here!
This gorgeous book is filled with photos of the cultivated gardens and wild countryside that give the author inspiration. The front matter includes information on choosing appliqué fabrics, backgrounds, and borders, then moves to the appliqué process. Susan uses the overlay method for positioning, and uses freezer-paper templates on the back of the appliqué fabrics. Step-by-step instructions and illustrations take you through her process in detail. Unit appliqué and bias stems are also covered. Then there are some really great general instructions for making wall quilts and cushions. On to the flowers! So beautiful. Petunias (as seen on the cover), Poinsettias, Black-Eyed Susans, Cherry Blossoms, Lilies, Tuplis, Bougainvillea, and more! Each one detailed and realistic, yet designed to avoid difficult stitching. If you like floral appliqué, you will love this new book, a followup to Susan's Another Season of Beautiful Blooms: Appliqued Quilts and Cushions Kay Mackenzie Author, Easy Applique Blocks: 50 Designs in 5 Sizes

Another Season of Beautiful Blooms: Appliqued Quilts and Cushions is inspired by the lovely gardens of England and Europe and blends floral designs in a way that really 'pop' the color. Full-sized block patterns and instructions for pillows and wall hangings are included for each of nine designs, with projects manageable in size and beautiful in finished results. Any needlework collection will welcome this gorgeous presentation.

Applique is one of my favorite types of quilting and this book makes me want to do more of it. Pillows, wall hangings and quilts all come alive with the blooms of many different flowers. These are not projects that you will complete in a weekend. They are detailed and intricate but the author walks you through the process and the templates are at full size.
Full color photos of the finished projects make me want to stop doing all my housework and dive into my fabric and quilt. Each one has the finished size and a blurb about the item. Materials and cutting lists are easy to follow. No quilting pattern suggestions are provided. Items like these are keepsake projects. Have fun and enjoy the fabric.

Blooms Inspired By English Country Gardens,
This review is from: Another Season of Beautiful Blooms: Appliqued Quilts and Cushions (Paperback)
"Another Season of Beautiful Blooms" is a follow-up to Susan Taylor Propst's earlier best selling book "Beautiful Blooms". Susan takes her inspiration from the lush and colorful gardens of her home in England and other parts of Europe. Contained in the book are nine different flower patterns, all beautifully drawn, and instructions to make each design as either a cushion or wall hanging in two different colorways. The projects are designed to make it easy for hand appliqué or fusible appliqué and are perfect for all levels of stitching skills. Susan includes a nice section on appliqué and suggests that because many of the many pieces that overlap the stitcher use the overlay method, instructions are also included in the appliqué section. Besides the appliqué lessons and the general finishing instructions you will find a nice section on using fabric and color to create contrast and value to help bring dimension to your work. There are always times when we need to make a small gift for a friend or special occasion and Susan's beautiful designs will help you do this.

My teacher who is teaching appplique recommended this book and she is so right. We have done a few in class and they are beautiful just like the pictures. Easy to follow instructions and having a choice of colours is great.

Applique is fun and Jean Wells creates designs that let us know we will have fun using them and accommodating them to our own tastes. Such cute drawings just beg to be used.

Beautiful templates but not much instruction to work with so I would suggest not for beginners.
