I've seen David Roth play live three or four times over the past several years. He does an annual Thanksgiving show not too far from where I live. He is such a warm, funny and engaging performer that you almost forget to mention that he is also a fine musician and a truly wonderful singer. In other words, he's the whole package, which is kind of rare these days.
This album, recorded live, but given a few studio flourishes here and there, is a good sampling of David Roth's wit, wisdom and, yes, his music. There's likely to be some disagreement about what constitutes a highlight here on an album chock full of special moments, but I am kind of partial to "The Star-Spangled Banner & Me," a witty piece about being having the chance to sing before a stadium full of people, and being humbled in the process. The only problem (at least on my sound system) is the fact the high notes, which CAN be truly astounding live, sound a bit distorted here.
Like any good folkie, David Roth's politics are a bit left of center. But like the Mensch that he is, he never takes them or himself too seriously. Resultantly, it's hard to imagine even the most reactionary of right wingers not responding to his the warmth of his personality or the warmth of his voice.
Check out David Roth. He deserves to be heard.

To fully enjoy this CD you must stop what your doing, and really listen to it. He has a great sense of humor and timing...and what a story-teller!!! Great for when you're driving in the car (especially if you are stuck in traffic and need a chuckle or two).
