In 1961, the Ventures tried to recapture the success of their breakthrough hit, "Walk--Don't Run." At a point when the "band" consisted of just guitarists Bob Bogle and Don Wilson (nonmembers Nokie Edwards and Howie Johnson are featured on bass and drums, respectively), the album's sound and feel--rock tunes drenched with string arrangements and slow country ballads--are very similar to the approach that made Duane Eddy a star. The standouts on this somewhat conservative outing are "Lullaby of the Leaves," Floyd Cramer's "Last Date" and the Stringalongs' "Wheels."
