What can I say? If this is your type of music, then you'll love it. If you loved Dub Trio's older stuff, this is a nice next step. The influence of touring with peeping Tom peeks out a little here, but that's a good thing. More of the same from DT, but definitely shows some growth from their other albums...

Dub Metal,

I came across this disc when I was checking out my recommendations here at Amazon. I heard a small sample and was sold instantly. I love this recording. There is no one else out there doing what they are doing, and that is combining dub and metal. A strange combo that works well. If you like dub music, then I extremely suggest giving this a chance. If you like experimental metal then this should be right up your alley. If you just like music with no words, this recording will fit perfectly in your collection. I hope that you enjoy this as much as I do.
Update: I just experienced them live and it was one of the best live shows I have seen. The musicianship of these guys are outstanding. The drummer is constantly changing it up yet it's flawless with the recording, and that includes all the effects he randomly assigns to his drums. The guitar work was just as flawless using all his petals and just solid timing. The bass of course is just as flawless but more of a feeling than a sound. Because of this adventure Dub Trio are now one of my favorite bands.

Instrumental metal dubbed out? I like it!,

Sounds like old Dub Trio, but heavier? Well, the track Mortar Dub sounds more like the Dub Trio of the past, but I don't think it is this band's intention to rehash their old sound on this album. On Another Sound is Dying monster rock riffs meld into delayed dub experimentation and hints of Meshuggah's time shifting overlapping grooves (especially on tracks 14 and 9, the later featuring Mike Patton's guttural vocal styling). There is definitely humor in Dub Trio's interpretation of metal as intense double bass drum and distorted guitar attacks turn to sparse down tempo drum and bass passages with ambient guitar experimentations. A flanged tape delayed timbale. Is that a guitar or not? Sub bass growls. Electronic manipulation of all instruments. There is a surprise on every track. For those who like the past Dub Trio's heavier records like Cool Out and Coexist, you will love this record. For those who thought that dubbed out instrumental hard rock was an impossibility, do check out this album, be amazed of the sound a guitar a bass and drum set can make, and support on the best underground (but hopefully not for long) band out there.

baking some tollhouse and listening to dub trio. i have all of their albums.
this one holds a special place in my heart with feliciatation and bay leonard.... haven't seen them live....but their tourings w/ matishyahu...i don't know how much of their own stuff they are allowed to played.... the album art is great... Patton's addition is great for an album that is mostly instrumental. you-tube these guys and see how they do it live.... impressive muscianship. this is truly a choice album. meow.

This album serves as my introduction to this trio of musicians with very sick chops. I watched them perform as backing band for Matisyahu last night at Paradise Rock Club. In short, these guys play an in-your-face, intense, musical mash-up of reggae/dub/metal and dare I say, prog rock as well. If you like the above genres, try this album, and you'll be in for a treat...personally, my favorite tracks are Felicitation and Regression Line (some hints of Porcupine Tree). However, you have to try the rest of the tracks as they do incorporate varied elements in their music..sounding like no one else.

This was my first Dub Trio album, and at first listen I was blown away by the creativity of these three true musicians. Highly recommended for fans of Bad Brains and Don Caballero; I am not trying to categorize or draw comparisons, but this album is recommended for fans of creative music and these bands who are trying to expand their musical horizons and to enjoy some fresh music.

Aggressive and gritty as per..the drop-down /half-time dub is still present, yet they have refined themselves up a notch or so, which I find to be a good thing.

I was blown away the first time I heard the first song.... Bought the download within 45 seconds (Gotta live that 1 click..!)
Couldn't make it to the show in Northern California, and sorry I missed it. Bought the download instead, and it has hardly left the player since...! Reminds me of Bad Brains, but harder, and tight rhythms, unheard by this afficionado before. Dudes...>! Dub Trio Dudes, THANK YOU......! Was sure there were only few if any fresh artists with the shizzle....! DANG, was I wrong...@%$^&^!

new heavier,
This review is from: Another Sound Is Dying (Audio CD)
this album is great. it seems as if they have somehow gotten better (yet they were already really good) or they are still evolving. following their career is sure to be very rewarding.
in relation to 'new heavy' and the subsequent live album (still need to get their first cd), this seems more "heavy" than "dub" music, but still a good amount of both. the production is perfect. in your car, it'll seem like the drums are under your hood. i would've bought this even if there wasn't a mike patton track on it, which incidentally is very good. i bought this and their other albums for the groove and the heavy aspects. most of all i got into them after seeing them live. they pull it off, every note, blip, and effect amazingly. if you want more dub check out their earlier work, but i definitely like this album the best. see them live. if you like their stuff but are on the fence - you'll love the show. |
