Deep Lyrics--Fabulous Voice!, January 27, 2008
This review is from: Another Sweet Mess (Audio CD)
When I listened to this album, I found myself getting right into the lyrics (no meaningless syrup here!) and going "Wow!" at how Kirstin's voice bent and changed as it wrapped itself around the melodies in the various styles offered here. Kirstin is one of those people whose lyrical depth and poetic vocal stylings creating a wonderful "surround sound" experience for the listener, an aural-emotional treat for those of us who love great music. This is a very enjoyable album!! 5 stars!!

What a charmer!, March 26, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Another Sweet Mess (Audio CD)
I was given this CD by Kirstin herself at the South by Soutwest festival in Austin in March. Frankly, I think her talent is too great for her to be handing out CDs to music journalists, but on the other hand I would't have heard her album if she hadn't given it to me... This CD takes the listener through a great variety of genres, and Ms Candy handles them all amazingly well. There is not one weak track on the album. All the songs are worthy of airtime. Her voice ranges from the soft and sweet on songs like "60 years" to the more up-beat and funky on songs like "Sucker Punched". The songs are easily accessible but remain interesting. If you want to hear what must become one of the next big things on the indie front, look no further than this album. Go Kirstin!

Great songwriting, great voice, February 20, 2003
This review is from: Another Sweet Mess (Audio CD)
Most of the tracks on this CD could be radio hits.
They have the hook, a beat you can dance to, and
lyrically map directly onto the thought processes
most people have running in a tight loop in their
heads -- about trivial, or troubling matters,
or that pop music stalwart, romance.
When I first heard her, Kirstin Candy reminded me
of early Kate Bush. Still does. The production
values are not unlike what Dave Gilmour brought
to Kate Bush's first solo album.
The whole album is a pleasure, increasingly moreso
with every listening, but I was especially
impressed and charmed by "Count to 10".
