Editorial Reviews

Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of this 1979 album including two bonus tracks. Another Taste was the sophomore album from the Disco-Funk group on Capitol Records. The album returned the group to the Top 30 in the R&B album chart and featured the oft-sampled R&B 'Do It Good'. Like their debut album, it was produced by Capitol Records' Funk, Soul and Jazz legends Fonce Mizell & Larry Mizell. The album makes it's international CD debut with this release. Liner notes include detailed interviews. Also featured are two bonus tracks. Cherry Red. 2010.

LOVE the first single from this album ("Do It Good") and that lowdown dirty bassline TOO, which did not create a major national buzz as did their #1 debut single, "Boogie Oogie Oogie," but which scored the girls a #13 R&B hit.

The rest is typical Taste of Honey featuring the creamy, dreamy, lullabye-like vocals of Janice Marie Johnson with nice harmonies and awesome lead guitar from her sidekick, Hazel Payne. Additionally, Miss Hazel delivers a very tender vocal on "I Love You."

This would be the last album they would record as a quartet before downsizing to a duo for the comeback (because this album had flopped,) "Twice As Sweet" in 1980 which would boast a Top 20 R&B hit in "Rescue Me" and a smash Pop hit in "Sukiyaki." I can't believe it's taken 31 years to see the light of release on CD!

A little trivia for ya TOO: A Taste of Honey were Capitol Records' first act in history to EVER HAVE a Platinum-certified single ("Boogie Oogie Oogie) in 1978 from their debut album!

After receiving the Grammy Award for "New Artist of the Year" in 1979, A Taste of Honey released their second album later in the summer. Expectations for "Another Taste" were high in terms of producing a hit song with as much caliber as "Boogie Oogie Oogie" (the platinum smash hit from their self-titled debut album). With "Do It Good" chosen as the lead single off the new album, it was obvious that the group's momentum on the pop charts was in jeopardy.

Despite the disappointment from a marketing perspective, die-hard fans (especially those in Japan) found the material on this album appealingly creative and beautiful. An example of such praise can be applied to "I Love You" - a melodic tune that combines orchestration with vocal harmony. Even the uptempo track, "Dance," successfully blends orchestration with catchy guitar strumming. "The Rainbow's End" is a great sing-along song whereby Hazel Payne takes the lead.

This underrated album was kept in storage for 31 years until it was finally released on CD for the first time in 2010 as an imported digital remaster. The inclusion of single versions to "Do It Good" and "I Love You" extends the running time of this already-short album by another 8 minutes.

If you appreciate the flavor of R & B, the rhythm of guitars, the accompaniment of orchestral instruments, and the sweet vocal harmonies of Janice Marie Johnson and Hazel Payne, this is definitely the album that defines their artistic identity.

A year before releasing this album, ATOH scored one of the most beloved hits in the history of disco with "Boogie Oogie Oogie." However, the accompanying album was a surprisingly average set of slow soul that did nothing to stay in the Boogie Oogie Oogie groove. On this superiorly enjoyable followup album, the group puts considerably more emphasis on the bouncy, throbbing disco beats that "Boogie Oogie Oogie" fans would probably want to get down to (especially "Do It Good" and "The Rainbow's End"), and an improved sense of melodicism make the slow ballads on this album much more enjoyable than those on the previous album.

Absolutely LOVE this CD. Some have said this was not their 'best' project, but I almost have to disagree because it is funk-a-licious!! A GREAT follow to their debut album, which contained the MASSIVE hit Boogie Oogie Oogie! This CD is just AWESOME!!

Replaced a lost/stolen vinyl copy. Disappointed that it costs more here than on iTunes ($3.99). Perhaps a "price match" is in order (In the form of a refund) to make up the difference. Otherwise, a good album.

What a delight this album is. Soulful harmonies, great disco beat, that indescribable 70's sound with a heaping dose of funk -- add it all up and you get A Taste of Honey. And it's sweet!

I enjoyed this album from beginning to end. The only thing I could wish for is even more of this wonderful sound. Got it this week for a bargain price, even better!
