I teach film and gender studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, and watched this film to see if I wanted to teach it. Without a doubt, I was just blown away by it! It's so well-crafted: great acting, wonderful music, lovely production values, but most importantly, it is a moving, smart story about characters that you really come to care about and identify with. The film uses all of its multidimensional characters to grapple with the specificity of transgender identity, and the rejection that Lea constantly faces, and it goes on to question the concept of gender, and to wonder just what it is that makes us fulfilled as human beings.

I wholeheartedly recommend Another Woman for everyone. It's warm, thought-provoking, and specific and, yes, universal. Will be teaching it in the spring!

This is an incredible film! A must see! It's an engaging, superbly acted and beautifully filmed story that captures the trials, tribulations and triumphs of love and family in our trans age. The 2004 French film, Another Woman (Une Autre Femme), reveals the struggles, scars and remembering of Nicholas' male to female transition to Lea, a journey accented throughout by shifts in gender and sexual identities as well as moves across class, social, and national borders. Reluctant yet drawn to re-connect, Lea concocts a ruse, disguising herself to re-enter the lives of her supposedly widowed wife and her children. Again, this is a must see! It's gripping, entertaining, stunning and informing. The depth of content is carried by the stellar script, acting and cinematography.

We programmed this film for Portland's Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in October 2007 because it has everything which we knew the audience would want and what makes it easy for a programmer to choose a film for ANY Film Festival. A great storyline, wonderful deep characters (Natalie Mann as Lea is just awesome), great soundtrack and the success of a sold out screening showed that this movie was right on target and definitely not only for the LGBT Community. Read about the storyline in the editorial review, don't want to repeat here. Additional this DVD includes also a short ENTREVUE by Marie-Pierre Huster which is a gem on its own. You will not regret buying this DVD, you will just regret not have seen it on the big screen!!

I watched this recently and really thought it was an excellent film. Great story, acting, and one of the best transgender films I have ever seen. But on top of all that, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The characters stayed with me long after and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a great movie to watch at home!
