3.0 out of 5 stars Music style from "Another" decade
My how Brian's vocals have improved!Let's get the bad stuff out of the way. First, this album isn't cohesive and seems more like a collection of songs (this was recorded in bits over many years) than a proper songbook. Now the good stuff. On "Cyborg", Brian takes guitar "tapping" to new heights (can anyone play it that fast???) and with Foo Fighters...

Just to prove that there is life after Queen, Brian May has come up with an absolutely wonderful album. The full range of his undoubted talent is here for all the world to see, from the traditional Queen-esque rockers such as Business and China Belle to the hauntingly beautiful Another World and Why Don't We Try Again. Brian has emerged from Freddie Mercury's huge shadow to become a solo artist in his own right. His delicate and emotional vocal style is perfectly complimented by his stunning guitar work - the man is a musical genius, do yourself a favour and go out and buy this album ..... your ears will love you for the rest of your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars misty blue and lilac too, March 20, 2000
This review is from: Another World (Audio CD)
This is Brian May's glorious sophomore solo album, and those who know his first album know what to expect: some darn fine music. "Another World" starts out with the embryonic "Space", which then launches into the rockin' "Business", a tormented yet beautiful plea for peace. "China Belle", next, sports one wicked guitar, as well as some rather predictable lyrics. Number four, the breathtaking "Why Don't We Try Again", is my personal favorite. Anyone who doubts Brian's worthiness as a vocalist need only listen to this song once to be convinced of the folly of their ways. Next comes "On My Way Up". From the first 'heyyy' it's fun, it's flip, it's Brian being adorable as always. The metallic "Cyborg" shows off some of Brian's supernatural guitar talent. Wow. Moving on, there's "The Guv'nor" (with Jeff Beck). Okay: All I can say is, here are two of the best guitarists in rock history, working together. What do YOU think the result is going to be like? It's mayhem. It's a long way from the next song, the searchingly sentimental "Wilderness". Then it's back to mad mad rock'n'roll with the excellent cover of the Beatles tune "Slow Down". This is followed by another worthy cover, Jimi Hendrix's "One Rainy Wish", which Brian executes with flair and power. Well done, indeed. Pressing on, there's more good stuff: the live-effect "All the Way From Memphis", a cheeky Mott the Hoople cover (with a guest appearance by Ian Hunter himself). Now it's time to wind down. The last song on the album is the title track, "Another World". (Leave it to Brian to put the title track last.) It's a lovely piece, with beautifully wistful lyrics and sweetly gentle acoustic guitar work. Rewarding the patient listener, the false ending leads to an instrumental reprise of "Business", to conclude the album on a soft, meditative note. This is a must have for all Brian and Queen fans, as well as for anyone else who truly loves music. Mightily recommended.

This is must-have stuff for any Queen fan. Brian rocks his heart out, holds nothing back. His cover of Hendrix's "One Rainy Wish" is just phenomenal.

All I can do here is just reiterate what is said in the other reviews and ask why the record company doesn't promote Brian May's CDs? With the right promotion they are sitting on a gold mine here. Don't know what my favorite song is, because they're all just great. I have to recommend this CD to any rock and roll fan. And for anyone who happened to dislike Queen, don't worry. All though there are some similarities here, particularly in the background vocals and, of course, the guitar work, this is pure R&R at its best!

5.0 out of 5 stars I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT BRIAN!, April 11, 2000

Another World says it all! It is so refreshing to hear from Brian May again! I'm glad he decided to continue his career and do this CD. I could almost hear Queen in the background of several of the songs. Brian proves that he not only is one of the world's best guitarists but that he has a voice that can match. I'm glad he decided, (Why Don't We Try It Again), because he is definately, (On My Way Up), he's not going to, (Slow Down), going, (All The Way From Memphis), back to England, and on to, (Another World). It would really be hard to choose a favorite song from this new material, I would have to say all of them! I feel much richer in every way, by adding (Another World) to my collection! I hope you will too!

he gets better with age. I've always loved Brian May's music, from White Queen to Another World, and he has never disappointed me. My favorite song on this album changes with every mood I'm in, and there's a song for every one of them. I sincerly hope he never stops making music.

Brian May has been one of my personal favorites for many years. Ever since the break up of Queen, Brian has used his musical talent to expand the musical tastes of his listeners and fans. This recording is a testament to his many tastes and talents in the music industry.

Queen's guitar virtuoso, Brian May, fuses blues, rock, heavy metal and beautiful songs on this incredible CD. Songs such as "Wilderness" "Space" "Business" and the yearning ballad " Another World" combine to make the record an eclectic masterpiece. Brian May's guitar hero Jeff Beck makes a guest apperance on "The Guv'nor". Cozy Powell's drums are stellar throughout the entire CD. May's guitar work is impeccable and his vocals are VERY good ! A bonus track version of "Another World" has a great instrumental "F.B.I." Brian May is a riff master, a scientist, an astronomer, an author and an ardent animal rights activist. He is a humane mind of a higher order ! THank God !

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not his best!, June 18, 2006
This review is from: Another World (Audio CD)
Now being a HUGE Brian May fan, i must say this is a fine piece of work for someone with such talent as Brian May. I must say, that his guitar playing is, as always, wonderful, spectacular!!!! etc etc. But I must say it isnt his best. Back To the light is a little better, on the other hand, then Another World. Though it is a good album, it is lacking! Brian May, may not posses huge singing skills sing like Freddie Mercury, but he can sure damn well play guitar! For die-hard Queen fans, like me, this is a treasure!

From a fan...

Released by EMI Records, Ltd. except the U.S. and Canada by Hollywood Records. Brian May makes it on his own on this solo outing. My favourite song on here is "Wilderness". My least favourite is "Slow Down".
