3.0 out of 5 stars What would Ansel say?
Ever since the Ansel Adams Trust quit printing the late photographer's images with the Southern California-based lithography company, Gardner Lithograph, the image quality of Mr. Adams's photographs has suffered a bit. 5.0 out of 5 stars Oversize Calendar Is Great as Family's "Master Calendar", August 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The reason that I buy this calendar, year after year, is that the extra-large date boxes provide ample space for recording family medical appointments, upcoming meetings and activities, and other date-related reminders. The Ansel Adams black and white photographs are beautiful, and every year's selection is different.

Each month's calendar page includes a mini-calendar for last month and next month, and indicates holidays, moon phases, and important items like daylight savings time changes. There is also an extra page for January of the upcoming year. This calendar is the same as the one sold in retail bookstores at year's end, but I like to buy it from Amazon as soon as it is offered (my 2012 calendar shipped in July), so that I can write in next year's appointments (beyond January) as soon as they are scheduled.

This review is from: Ansel Adams Calendar (2003) (Calendar)
Ansel Adams' Calendars are always spectacular, with beautiful black and white photographs. He is particularly famous for his photos of Yosemite, and the pictures in this calendar will not dissapoint. You can find this item in any bookstore, but at the Amazon price, it is a real bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Calendar, October 30, 2009

This is a gorgeous calendar. It's large and the pictures are bold; it hangs in my kitchen and guests always compliment me on it and ask me where I bought it. This calendar makes me smile -- I love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars What would Ansel say?, December 8, 2011
Ever since the Ansel Adams Trust quit printing the late photographer's images with the Southern California-based lithography company, Gardner Lithograph, the image quality of Mr. Adams's photographs has suffered a bit. Adams began working with Mr. David Gardner more than 40 years ago. When Adams came to the press checks for his books, posters and calendars, each sheet coming off the old Heidelberg presses had to match his darkroom prints flawlessly. They had to hold all of the highlight and shadow detail meticulously. Thus, Gardner and Adams kept a close relationship until Adams's death. Since the Trust opted for higher profits, comparisons between the original lithography produced by Gardner and more recent publications are sadly astonishing.

While most people would never see the differences between the original Gardner-produced publications (for Little, Brown) and the reprints of today, photographers with experience shooting and printing in black and white film will not be fooled. I'm glad that Adams's talent continues to be revered in the world of fine art photography. I just wish the Trust leadership team cared for the quality of the printing as it did years ago. David Gardner, prior to his recent retirement, has been printing books for some of the world's most revered photographers for more than 45 years including Dorothea Lange, Brett Weston and many others. His legacy, and his team, continue on with Dual Graphics in Brea, CA. If you can find a copy of "Odyssey," a collection of photos spanning more than 100 years from the National Geographic archives, buy it. This is a fine legacy of David Gardner's genius and the team of artisans he trained. Hunt down older books and posters of Adams as collectables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good as ever., December 26, 2009

I've been buying these every year for as long as I can remember. This year's calendar does not disappoint, as a matter of fact it is one of the better ones. There is a good match between popular and relatively unknown images, and all are first rate. Evidently, there has been some kind of change in the power structure of the Ansel Adams trust and his descendants that will result in more of his work being made available in popular formats.

5.0 out of 5 stars best combination of beauty and function, December 31, 2011

This is the only wall calendar I use to track our family activities -- the boxes are plenty large enough for the various appointments, competitions and classes (I use a different color for each family member). And the photographs are exquisite!

The Ansel Adams wall calendar is a yearly tradition for me. Another year, more great photos. And this year, purchased at Amazon, the calendar cost me less. It is also the authorized edition which makes a difference to me.

I've bought an Ansel Adams wall calendar for many years. My husband is a retired professional photographer and we both appreciate not only the excellent photographs but their clarity and reproduction. Always a pleasure to turn to the next month!
