Stands on its own very well.,

This, of course, was background music for a television production, and served the program very well. However, it stands on its own very well, too. The orchestration is particularly lush and the performance is very sensitive and introspective.

It is hard to imagine that this was a soundtrack to a documentary - even though I've seen the film. This is a perfect blend of music for any time of day, but I particularly enjoy it with my morning coffee.

If you have not heard this CD, you have missed a gem! The selection,
American Open Reprise, is one dynamite beauty, powerful and inspiring. Play this beauty on surround sound with the volume up and lead the symphony. When you play this selection, it will make you a true audiophile. It is forward moving, just like a heavy take-off on a 747-400ER. You will not be disappointed.

An absolutely inspiring score,

Keane has created such a beautiful score for this Burns documentary that I am hard pressed to find just the right words for review. From exquisite orchestral, solo piano and acoustic guitar, it's easy to hear why his work is so highly praised and sought out by film makers. As a fan of Thomas Newman's compositional style - not to mention Metheny, Frisell etc. - I feel Keane's effort on Ansel Adams is of the highest caliber. He's an exceptional guitarist, no doubt, but his orchestration, composition and obvious decision to utilize the guitar sparingly (though, perfectly)on this score results in an inspiring listen. Ansel Adams photographic genius is on display throughout the booklet and Keane honors the photographers background as a pianist, as well. Burns comments on the project, too. A more complete CD package than I was expecting. Keane's detailed, thoughtful compositions are a testament to Adam's pristine work and serve the subject matter so well that I was inspired to purchase a couple of Ansel's prints. I can't speak highly enough of this music and consider it a stronger effort than even his stellar "The Way West" score.

I saw the documentary & kept thinking, as I was watching, that the music was really lovely and of a much higher quality than what is heard in most documentaries. With a little search on the internet, I was pleased to discover that the soundtrack itself was offered for purchase. I should not have been surprised. Do the Burns brothers ever offer anything less than the best? I bought it right away. It is some of the most beautiful instrumental music I have ever heard. It offers a rich blend of orchestral arrangements and piano which immediately brings to mind vast vistas. Many of the selections begin slowly and quietly and work to a crescendo. One can almost imagine rising up the side of one of the mountains in an Ansel Adams photograph and reaching the peak, at last. One selection is actually a recording of Ansel Adams himself playing a piece by Bach. He was, after all, a fine pianist as well as a gifted artist. I find this soundtrack a must for listening on walks in the woods and also for listening to on a road trip. Absolutely outstanding and highly recommended. It has become one of my favorites.

Beautiful music. Like all soundtracks, some tracks are less appealing for daily use, but the others make the CD well worth the money. I also recommend "New York" (another Brian Keane CD sountrack to a Ric Burns film).
