'Answer to Cancer' is extremely valuable just for that. What makes it extraordinary is that it's funny! Belly laugh funny. Jim Meade uses humor to make a seriously scary subject go down easy, in the most sincere, compassionate way.
I think the best recommendation comes from my 23 year old daughter, a cool realist with a highly sensitive BS meter, and plenty of attitude. She read a few pages of our copy, and promptly adopted it. We had to get another one.
I recommend 'Answer to Cancer' for everyone on your Christmas list - it's ridiculously cheap, and worth it's weight in gold!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Answer to any Imbalance in the Body or Mind, January 31, 2006
By
Cliff DeVries (Honolulu, Hawaii) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
The Answer to Cancer: is Never Giving it a Chance to Start is written in a lighthearted and comfortably way. Simple recommendations from Ayurveda, translated as the science of life or life span, are made to increase immunity in the body by igniting the fires of digestion at breakfast time, enhancing digestion and elimination, balancing and adjusting the diet, adding strategies to detoxify the body, and re-enlivening a youthful enthusiasm and joy for life. The authors continue with discussing ideas to improve and enhance sleep, to rejuvenate the body and mind through Yoga (yoga postures are sketched along with instructions on how to perform them) and to walk daily. They progress onto state of the art herbal combinations and behavioral recommendations to improve the value of one's interactions with people throughout the day. Finally, they continue with recommending a highly researched meditation program for developing greater mental and physical potential and at the end of the book they discuss the inspiring origins of Ayurveda.

After implementing the recommendations which are supported by scientific research, I began understanding that the significance of the book is found in using the recommendation not just reading about them. It is an operation's manual for refining the body and mind; after practicing the ideas I felt increased energy, creativity, improved memory, clarity of thinking, increased happiness and better health.

The title of the book The Answer to Cancer could have been The Answer to Anything. Improved immunity, balance, and happiness will take care of most threats of disease and problems in life.

The eminent authors are all experienced practitioners of Ayurveda.

Hari Sharma, MD was director of the Cancer Prevention and Natural Products Research, Department of Pathology, College of Medicine and Public Health, Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. He has co-authored 3 books on Ayurveda and has lectured worldwide on his research and Ayurveda. He is now retired, a Professor Emeritus, and practicing medicine.

Dr. Rama Kant Mishra is an Ayurvedic physician. He is a Graduate of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (GAMS), from SYNA Ayurvedic College, Bhagulpur. He has been in private practice since 1974.

Jim Meade, Ph.D., English Literature assembled the ideas from the other two authors. He has written 23 books to date and wrote some of them in the funny and famous Dummies series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly rewarding and uplifting book!!!, September 19, 2002
By
Eine Leserin (z. Zt. Zürich, sonst Bremen) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
This books contains all you need to know to live not only healthily but also to really< enjoy your life at the same time! This book gives you an astounding amount of informations but without overburdening you. It just anticipates the questions that you might have in regard to the "how"s and "why"s. Everything is cooked down to the essentials - you are not overwhelmed with "do's" and "don'ts". Instead the book is full of jokes, really inspiring, brightening your day, uplifting and encouraging.
The book is briefing you about all you need to know to live life happily and avoid the terrible disease mentionned in the title.
It is however NOT only for people in fear of (recurrence) of cancer - it is for all who want to have a brief, yet all-comprehensive book on how to live ayurvedically and joyfully at the same time.
It is a book you will ENJOY to read - it is highly informative and it is very readable!

My compliments to the authors! I wouldn't want to miss it anymore - it should become a standard book for all health conscious individuals. Also, it is the kind of book you will enjoy to read even at bedtime five minutes before falling asleep. It is a very positive outlook on health.

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy, useful guide to keeping yourself healthy and happy, September 6, 2007

This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
Highly recommended! The Answer to Cancer should really be called "The Answer to Living Optimal Health and Happiness." It gives a clear, readable introduction to Ayurveda, an ancient, integrated system for optimizing physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Ayurvedic principles support a very holistic, natural, and comfortable lifestyle where your meals and supplements, daily routine, exercise, and even your ideal attitudes are based on a combination of universal principles, natural cycles, and your individual body, mind, and spirit.

What's really cool about this book is: as it presents each set of Ayurvedic recommendations, it backs them up with the latest Western research. You learn concrete, practical ways to stay healthy, thus preventing both cancer and other diseases, and at the same time you learn the underlying biochemical reasons why these recommendations work. I have tried many of these ideas and am delighted to find that relatively easy adaptations have caused profound improvements.

The three authors are a respected Ayurvedic practitioner, an American MD who is also a cancer researcher, and a professional writer so they know their stuff and also know how to make it understandable (and, amazingly, even fun!) for the rest of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great choice for alternative treatments, March 30, 2007
This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
I had to buy this book for a class I'm taking for a masters in nutrition. I liked it so much that I bought a second copy for a friend who has a wife battling breast cancer. This book may not be the actual "answer to cancer" but the authors do offer some great suggestions for keeping yourself healthy that are very simple and easy to follow. If they don't help with cancer specifically, then, as they even say in the book, at least they will get you healthier in general. I also really enjoyed the light-hearted approach. While cancer is a very serious disease, treating life with a little humor goes a long way to ease a little of the stress which, in and of itself, can cause disease.

The book was a very easy read, had very simple approaches and offers many alternatives to Western medicine. Western medicine excels at trauma treatment but has proven to be essentially ineffective against cancer. Also, just because I use the word "alternative", I don't mean that as "freakish". Again, very simple (yoga, healthy diet, herbs) and very easy to encorporate into your reagular lifestyle. It's worth a try to get this book and read some alternative ways to life life a little healthier and a little happier.

1.0 out of 5 stars Surely not the best book for cancer preventation, September 24, 2005
This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
Good points about the book: easy to read, simple to follow, new perspective (Ayurvedic view of health and disease) but there are a few points worthy to take note of:
1. The writers stress that food have to be cook for better digestion (i agree), but they do not say that uncook food is very important for health and cancer preventation too. Any cook food will be lacking of enzymes which are very important for cancer preventation. Jucing is a way out for people with weak digestion. i recommend reading a book written by Max Gerson: Cancer Therapy.
2. They recommend Tumeric milk. Tumeric is good to prevent cancer, i agreed; but dairy products like milk may not, instead it may indirectly be a contributing factor towards losing our health.
3. Lastly, contradicting philosophy. First they tell us that a clean body (clean cell;pg 117-8) will prevent cancer, but later they seem to agree that chemo therapy as a good therapy for cancer treatment (pg151-5; 170)which itself will "dirty" our health greatly, increasing our chances of getting cancer.

just my humble reflections.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be your own medic and get your body to fight cancer, April 28, 2003
This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
I was so delighted when I read 'The Answer to cancer ...' I wrote to my local newspaper - and they printed it !! I am already practicing many of the techniques - which is why I know what the authors are saying is right. Here's a copy of the article:-

The Star [Sheffield Newspaper] Tuesday, April 22, 2003.

Letters page

Be your own medic and get your body to fight cancer [editorial heading]

I have noticed many articles on many diseases, and remarks on
complementary
health care - being expensive. A new book has been purchased by
Sheffield Central Library - 'The Answer to Cancer Is never Giving It a Chance to
Start - very simple ways to avert a very big calamity and not getting sick
from chemo'. Although the title refers to cancer - a huge killer
disease -
it describes a range of simple techniques for preventing, alleviating and often curing a broad range of modern
illnesses. Things we can do from home simply, safely and cheaply. A First Aid book for 21st Century, complete with references for Health Professionals, it tells:
* Which Indian spice protects your DNA (where cancer starts)
* How cancer cells crave sugar, and how to block sugar cravings
* How to get your body to manufacture Interleukin-2 (a prescription anti-cancer drug)
* Why natural killer cells are good, and how to keep them flowing
* What food supplement can fight bad toxins without blocking
chemotherapy's 'good toxins'
* Simple steps to fight colds, the flu, insomnia and more.

The most expensive investment would be learning to transcend as part of our daily routine. p149 'Transcending is a killer cancer fighter. It makes all other cancer fighting techniques work better - not just a little bit better, but way, way better.'

However the first step is just to read the book - and
see what healthy changes we can make first. Enormous improvements in our lives can happen through the simplest changes. Time to start becoming our own pharmacist and strengthening our immune systems ?

3.0 out of 5 stars i'm a little skeptical, January 13, 2009
This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
this book is what all of the positive reviews purport it to be, however - i am somewhat skeptical of any book that has specific product recommendations as to the brands and types of herbal supplements you should buy.

often in the book, it will praise a nutrient or vitamin, and then tell you the best source to get it into your body is to buy a certain product and specifically not tell you any recommended dosing information so you really can't implement their advice WITHOUT those aforementioned products.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well-Written Guide, September 17, 2011

This review is from: The Answer to Cancer: Is Never Giving It a Chance to Start (Paperback)
This book is well-written, funny, and pragmatic. I have found the dietary and lifestyle suggestions very doable. The ones I have implemented have yielded benefits such as improved energy and improved overall feelings of well-being. I don't have cancer, but my mother died of cancer when she was only a bit older than I am now -- so I'm taking the book's title to heart. So far, so good.
