Fading Control Lines,
By Little Lovebug (East Coast, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Answer Quick & Simple One-Step Ovulation Test-7ct (Health and Beauty)
I purchased these to use on a trip where dip tests would have been awkward dinner conversation, so the mid-stream style was for us this cycle. Overall, I originally thought they worked really well. I timed right, only needed 1 test day of neg. before I got my +. As with all OPKs, the lines are sometimes iffy, but these weren't too bad. I tested again the day after my first + and got another +, so I guess I wasn't ovulating yet, just gearing up. The next day I took off, and then still hadn't seen temperatures looking like ovulation (I chart also to confirm ovulation as these tests DO NOT confirm ovulation, just the presence of the LH), I tested 3 days AFTER MY FIRST + and got yet another +, which according to my temps was when the day before I actually did ovulate. So the first 3 tests did their job.
BUT THEN - I tested again for fun a few days later, same time of day, same amount of urine held, etc... and I got REALLY dark test lines (the line that determines the presence of LH), BUT the control line (that shows up unless the test is faulty) was MUCH, MUCH LIGHTER than any of the other tests I'd seen from the same package. The following day, the same thing happened. So overall, now I question the validity of the batch I purchased (exp. date 12/11). These tests would have "looked" positive, had I not see the darker control lines on the previous tests, I would have just assumed that is how this brand looks. Since I confirmed O with temping, I know I ovulated with the first round of tests... but the second round just made me question whether ANY of the readings could be reliable. For the $$, I wouldn't purchase these again. There are cheaper, bulk ways to purchase online.

Doesn't Work!,

I have been using opks for several months and am very familar with all of the brands. I have confirmed ovulation with 2 other brands of tests, but these Answer tests are ALWAYS negative. Don't waste your money. I usually use the cheap bulk test strips and when they get dark, I confirm it with the Clearblue Easy Digital tests.

Used these to get pregnant the second time and they work slick! I didn't realize these were available until a friend gave me her 'lucky left overs' after she got pregnant. A little advice: you need to have intercourse BEFORE this test turns positive and also the day you have your positive for good measure. You are LESS LIKELY to GET pregnant once the test is positive because the test measures the hormone surge that happens as you ovulate. By the time the hormone levels are high enough to detect, you may have already ovulated.
That's how it worked for us anyway. We had our timing messed up at first for a while. But after I figured out we were missing it by a day or two and moved things forward a few days, we got pregnant the first try. Good luck everyone, and remember - have fun! :)) |
