This is a pretty good CD,considering how old it is. Blue October have evolved so much since this CD came out, that they are a totally different band, but you can hear some of their eventual identity on this CD. If you are not a hardcore Blue October fan, then I wouldn't waste my time. Try something newer, such as Foiled or History for Sale.

Ignore Kalera Stratton's review, she doesn't know what she's talking about.

This is an outstanding album, and whilst it is not the same style as Blue October's Foiled album, it is nevertheless a work of genius. Every song is fantastic, and although I think the songs sound better when performed live (see Blue October's live album "Argue With a Tree..."). The song writing on The Answers is among the best in Blue October's catalog. "For My Brother", "Tomorrow", "Sweet and Somber Pigeon Wings", "Italian Radio", "Blue Sunshine", "Black Orchid", "Mr. Blues Menu", "Weaknesses", "The Darkest Side of Houston's Finest Day" and "The 21st" are all worthy of inclusion in a list of Blue October's best songs.

Yes this album was recorded in 1997 so it won't sound the same as an album that was recorded in 2007, but any music fan worth their salt can recognize the genius in the lyrics and the violin arrangements. Buy this album, it's well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Starting at the roots..., November 8, 2007

This album is very personal to the band, and it defiantly shows. The lyrics are raw, so much so that you feel as though you are surrounded by them. There is also something very soothing about singer Justin Furstenfeld's voice, it just seems to draw you in almost daring you not to listen closer. On this first offering from Blue October you can see a lot more of their Texas based "twang" rock roots, which only gives more personality to their sound.

On this record Blue October is not afraid to show what is at their core, a passion for making music with purpose. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys deep poetic lyrics with solid alternative/folk/rock sound.

Looking back on this album it is very clear why they are a band that is on the way up the music charts.

Tracks not to be missed: Breakfast After Ten, Italian Radio, For My Brother, Blue Sunshine, Black Orchid

5.0 out of 5 stars Answers to loneliness, October 10, 2008

I have been a fan of Blue October since there Foiled album. I bought there early albums and listened to them for months. I swear. This band, and/or Justin Furstenfeld is some of the best music I have ever heard. The lyrics are so deep I can feel my heart beating when I am listening to these great songs. The Answers is there first full length album. Some songs on this album made it on later albums because they were so unnoticed when it came out. I somehow overlooked this album when buying the others. But it welcomes itself with relatable lyrics that any non-shallow individual that has "lived" and understands the important things in life will attach themselves to these songs like the songs were telling there own life story. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much more intimate and soulful than their more recent material, March 23, 2008
This review is from: The Answers (Audio CD)
I was first exposed to Blue October with their recent release and subsequently worked my way backwards through their earlier stuff. I now realize they are (or were?) much deeper than their slickly-produced pop-ified recent material would suggest. I like this one and its follow-up, Consent to Treatment, much better than Foiled. The material is more urgent and personal, the production cleaner and simpler, and I love the up-front violin. Foiled is good, but this album makes me appreciate it in a whole new light and gives me hope for more great music from them in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums, April 15, 2010

I bought this off of ebay after buying all their other cd's. It's not one of those albums you can fully appreciate by just listening to it once or twice. As much of Blue Octobers stuff, the more you listen, the better it gets. It amazes me to see all this no talent pop garbage out there on the charts and an album as incredible as this one never really makes it anywhere. The music and lyrics are awesome. The way Justin is able to really show the intended emotion of the song by the way he sings is amazing. It's pretty rare that I find a band who's music can bring me to tears, this is one of them. When I listen to these guys I feel the music in my whole body. They've had quite an impact on me. Many people don't look that deeply into music but if you feel as deeply about good music as I do and you're already a Blue October fan , do yourself a favor and just buy this cd along with any other cd of theirs that you don't have. Trust me, they're all good, but this is one of the best. If you've never heard Blue October, I'd recommend Foiled and Approaching Normal, then go from there. If you dont want to pay the outrages price for a cd, buy the download. It's cheap and quick. If you insist on getting the original cd, check out the bands official website. I rarely write reviews but I felt that this one deserved my input 'cause it's so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Blue October release, April 30, 2008
This review is from: The Answers (Audio CD)
This is my favorite of all the Blue October albums, though I think they are all good. Like the other albums, the subject matter revolves around madness and relationships, and is very vulnerable and revealing. I like the stripped-down, raw quality of the lyrics and music, and Justin's vocals are very different in The Answers than in other releases. The violin is also much more predominant in this album. I just like it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Blue October is so fantastic, January 29, 2009
This review is from: The Answers (Audio CD)
Blue October has come such a long way, and it's so important to see them back in the beginning. It's nice that the sound has been fleshed out since then, gone through a few band members. An essential for any Blue October lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue October's Best, September 21, 2008
This review is from: The Answers (Audio CD)
I've seen Justin Furstenfeld live, playing his new songs acoustically, the way he wrote them. After standing there by the stage, listening to him pour his soul into this songs, I had trouble returning to the rocked out Blue October in their albums such as Foiled.

And then I found The Answers. The songs in this album send shivers down my spine and make my head spin.

If what you're used to is Blue October's newer stuff, this is not what you used to, but it's definitely worth listening to, over and over again.

Blue October rocks, and if you had got into them with their lastest Foiled cd...then you must next buy this one. It's my favorite of five I have. Every cd of theirs is really great though, they actaully put time and emotion into their music.
