Whimsical Characters and Fun Adventures for Preschoolers,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ant and Bee and the Rainbow: A Story About Colours (Ant & Bee) (Hardcover)
I got my first Ant and Bee book for my son on a recommendation from a nursery school teacher from the Bank Street School. My son is not quite two years old, and already follows the pictures and words in these classic books with glee. And because they are just his size, in bright colors, he especially likes to carry them with him when we travel. He likes pointing out characters like the Zoo Man and the Kind Dog, and of course, Ant and Bee. Most interesting about these books is that the text itself is fun for children to look at. Key words are highlighted with varying fonts and colors, and sections are sprinkled with minature versions of pictures from larger illustrations. Ant and Bee and the Rainbow is about colors. The intrepid insect friends like rainbows so much, they decide to make one of their own by painting half an old tire propped up on the ground. Each book has its own special twist with familiar objects. I recommend the entire series. It's too bad the! se are hard to find. They are wonderful. If Amazon can get them for you, it will be worth any wait!

I too remember this book as a child in the 70s. My brother and I LOVED it. I didn't realize it was part of a series until I worked in a bookstore in London 3 years ago.

Bring this one back,

I bet a publisher could make some money bringing this book back into general circulation. I remember Ant & Bee and the Rainbow vividly as a little kid during the mid 1960s, so it's been around a while. While the particulars of the story have faded over 40 years, I do remember the colors and the humor and maybe even the suspense bringing me back to look this one over again and again as a 2-4 year-old. I would love to get my hands on it for my own young children. If anyone has any tips on getting a copy, let me know.

Daughter (27) delighted to be reunited with a book she had as a child and I sent to a school sale many years ago! She often talked about how she had enjoyed this little book - ideal for little hands. A lovely little story, sure to be a favourite with the next generation too.

Best of Ant and Bee Series,

This review is from: Ant and Bee and the Rainbow: A Story About Colours (Ant & Bee) (Hardcover)
I have a few of the Ant and Bee books, and this is the only one that my 3 year old keeps requesting. Unlike some of the other books, this book is quite universal and timeless since it just deals with a couple of insects painting a rubber tire to look like a rainbow. In addition, the story is not built around alphabetical words, so the plot is a little bit less random than some of the other books. Instead, the story revolves around Ant and Bee painting an old tire to look like a rainbow and in the process mixing a few paint colors to produce new colors. There is a bit of slapstick and minor silliness. Like all the Ant and Bee books, it has more words/page than one tends to find in similar books in print today. Is it worth $100+? NO! But I cannot fathom why these books are not still in print. The illustrations and character design is fantastic, and it is a huge disappointment that such lovable characters as Ant and Bee cannot be more widely enjoyed.

This is the message I sent the book seller: The Book is: Ant and Bee and the RainbowAnt and Bee and the Rainbow (Ant & Bee)Dear Mary, I am not going to ask for my money back. I should have gotten more information about the printing company and location before my purchase. The $50.00 price led me to believe that the printing quality would have been original. I already have a copy that was printed in England. The book you sent me was printed in Hong Kong. The colors are not accurate. The color "red" in your book is almost orange. The color "violet" is truly brown. This is not just being picky: a book about colors should have the colors printed accurately. The poor printing of these two colors will give the child the wrong information. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. Sincerely, Rochelle |
