This review is from: Antec 761345-77063-7 Silver Thermal Compound (Personal Computers)
I recently had my PS3 experience the yellow light of death and being a computer guy looked up some quick info on the cause and realized I needed thermal compound. I was a little strapped for cash so I went down to radio shack and grabbed some of their cheaper compound hoping I could at least temporarily solve the issue and get back to playing. Well it lasted about 2 days before I had the same problem. So I saved up a few more bucks and ordered this compound knowing that silver has a higher conductance and is better for heat sink installation. I was not disappointed when I put this on although I had to use the whole tube because the PS3 has a CPU and a GPU that both need the compound. Long story short, I got the old compound cleaned off and put this new compound on and the PS3 has been running like a champ since.SO, to anyone that needs thermal compound I highly recommend you get this and not the cheaper silicon based competitor. It's a difference of a few bucks but it makes a HUGE difference in the performance of your CPU!

This stuff is Antec's Formula 5 STC (Silver Thermal Compound), and the part number accurately reflects this. Another reviewer said he was expecting Antec Formula 7, which is based on diamond dust. The two mildly annoying things about this product are 1) the tiny amount of actual product received, which is maybe a third of the volume of the syringe it is supplied in, and 2) the comparatively huge clamshell package used to encase the syringe. C'mon Antec, in this day and age you can do better than that - it's a waste of raw materials and energy. I'm docking one star just for that. The product itself? Seems to work just fine. Antec say it is 88% (by weight) micronized silver, which is a near ideal thermal transfer medium. Hope it doesn't dry out - if it does, I'll try to remember to update this review.

Normally if you're going to install a new heatsink, you wouldn't want to use the thermal compounds that would come with it.Antec Silver thermal compound is made for the cpu and heatsink to conduct the heat better allowing the cpu to run at cooler temperature when it's taking a lot of stress. Definitely works well, and you don't really need to use the entire thing for one CPU so you could save some for later.

I don't know what the fuss is about 7 vs 5, but this works great for me. Literally dropped my CPU temperature 10 degrees celsius and now the fans aren't trying to spin their way out of the case anymore.I recommend replacing the usual OEM thermal padding on most new computers and cpus with this.

This is more of a fulfillment comment than a product comment, but I ordered Antec 7 but received Antec 5. I had researched thee products and knew the " Antec 5" was not as well-rated as the "Antec 7." It wasn't worth the hassle to return it... and so I bought an equivalent product, Artic Silver 5, elsewhere.
