5.0 out of 5 stars The "Big Boy" gets me to 3.8GHz stable
I bought this to replace an 80mm fan in the side wall of my older case. Sure, it involved cutting a large hole in the side, but I'm a modder and it was definitely worth it. I have heretofore only been able to get my Phenom II 955 overclocked to 3.7GHz stable in my current case, but this baby got me to 3.8GHz rock solid stable on the medium speed setting. One previous...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mounting distance might be an issue
PROS: Fairly well-known for good air flow & reasonable noise. Non-sleve ball bearing (better than sleeve bearings for non-vertical mounts).
CONS: Mounting hole pattern not consistent with fairly common gaming case (might not fit yours!). Flat edge around most of the fan might prevent top-case horizontal exhaust installation in your case, especially on the motherboard...

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Big Boy" gets me to 3.8GHz stable, November 27, 2009

This review is from: Antec Big Boy 200 Tricool Fan 200Mm (Personal Computers)
I bought this to replace an 80mm fan in the side wall of my older case. Sure, it involved cutting a large hole in the side, but I'm a modder and it was definitely worth it. I have heretofore only been able to get my Phenom II 955 overclocked to 3.7GHz stable in my current case, but this baby got me to 3.8GHz rock solid stable on the medium speed setting. One previous reviewer complained that it didn't fit the "standard hole pattern." Since there are only a few 200mm fans out there (This one and one style made by Cooler Master) and they are all for custom case applications, I don't know how it could be standard. As for another reviewer complaining about no included grill, a cursory web search took me to [...], who have a 200mm grill for this fan which works perfectly. In case you were wondering about the speed control, it is a tiny triple-throw switch on about 6" of wire coming out from the fan. All in all, this is a great fan!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fan is a fan but it doesn't fit my case, August 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Antec Big Boy 200 Tricool Fan 200Mm (Personal Computers)
This is a decent fan for the price but it doesn't fit the bolt pattern for the 200mm mounting holes on my case (the 200mm fans that come with the case do fit). It is just a little off but it means only one screw can actually be screwed in without modification. I bought it for my Cooler Master RC-922M-KKN1-GP HAF 922M ATX Mid Tower Case but I can't mount it without drilling new mounting holes in the fan. I did drill new holes and mounted it ans it works just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Replacement better than the original, January 1, 2012

I bought this as a replacement (same manufacturer). My original lost a fin while I was simply cleaning it. I noticed the replacement is made of more flexible plastic. I run my fan on medium speed and never hear it. It would be a little noisy for my taste on high speed, but not excessive. It is well balanced and replacement was a breeze (pun sort of intended). Overall, it works well and, for the price, I can't help but give it 5 stars.

I purchased the Antec 902 v3 Case and its BigBoy fan was rattling. I purchased this as a replacement and it is quiet and runs very smoothly. I would recommend the fan to any enthusiast.

Moves a lot of air. The only bad thing is I have my desktop on the floor near my desk so I have to wear clothing when I am using it or I'll freeze to death. I'm sure most of you would say that warrants a 6th star though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mounting distance might be an issue, March 30, 2011

PROS: Fairly well-known for good air flow & reasonable noise. Non-sleve ball bearing (better than sleeve bearings for non-vertical mounts).

CONS: Mounting hole pattern not consistent with fairly common gaming case (might not fit yours!). Flat edge around most of the fan might prevent top-case horizontal exhaust installation in your case, especially on the motherboard side (what was the need for that edge, I must wonder? the CM Megaflow 200 and NZXT 200 don't have this edge and fit more cases!)

I have a HAF 912 case (which is fairly popular). This Big Boy will NOT fit in the top exhaust spot in my case (and maybe yours). You might find these two issues in your situation:

1) Some big fans (like the CM Megaflow 200) have more than 4 mounting holes, allowing for versatility in cases that can fit (it fitted mine). The Big Boy has 4 holes and, lo and behold, they do not match the 200mm top mounting hole pattern in my case. I couldn't find on the web for the interhole distance specs for this fan but you might be luckier. Amazon should post this as it tells the buyer whether the fan will work or not for us. Apparently, mounting hole distances are not standard for the big fans (furthermore, apparently NTXZ also has special distances to fit THEIR cases as per their web site as of the time of this review; keep this in mind). You can always drill on your case but this might lead to vibration (& noise) from uneven or non-planar mounting (if you combine case holes with yours, well, some cases like mine have recessed holes that you can't really mimic...). Better to get an adequate fan for your case...

2) For top-of-case horizontal setups: due to the massive size of the 200mm fans, some cases won't have enough space to fit these fans even if their mounting hole design is compatible. What this means is that a top fan would probably make contact with the left or right walls, particularly with the side where the motherboard goes. In the HAF912 (and similar cases) there's an opening north of the motherboard top edge that allow SOME fans to squeeze a bit in there so they can be mounted. The round design of the CM Megaflow 200 fits in this case. The Big Boy has this flat edge (look at the picture) surrounding most of the fan (except the two flat parallel cuts) . This flat edge prevents the fan from fitting in the case opening in the HAF912 (independently from the mounting hole issue). You might want to keep this in mind for any 200mm fan you consider for your case.

IMPORTANT: It's frustrating but even though I mention that the CM Megaflow DOES fit this case, It's a sleeve bearing design, apparently not designed for horizontal setups. I didn't find many 200mm non-sleeve quiet fans besides the Big Boy, so I decided to put two 120mm fans (which my case allows to do; I went with Scythe's proven quality). You might want to do the same until more 200mm options reach the market.

Otherwise this fan seems to have great reviews for CFM (a measure of air flow) & noise levels if it fits in your case :)

This "Big Boy" 200mm fan is an oem replacement fan for the original top fan on the antec 900 case. Perfect fitment once you figure out how to get to it.

The only reason why it didn't get 5 stars is because it has absolutely no instructions for install. Getting to this fan, and removing the old one can be quite a task, that you are left on your own to figure out.

4.0 out of 5 stars HAF X Fan Replacement, February 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Antec Big Boy 200 Tricool Fan 200Mm (Personal Computers)
This fan is advertised as a 200MM, works great but for this case (HAF X) the bolt holes do not quite line up with the cases orginal holes. I like the veriable speed but have to open case to switch speeds. Noise is just about illiminated, quietest fan in the case. really cannot tell if fan is operating at full speed or not. I would recommend this product to anyone but be aware the fan is a little bigger than most 200mm fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an Antec Fan For An ANTEC CASE, January 29, 2012
This review is from: Antec Big Boy 200 Tricool Fan 200Mm (Personal Computers)
This is an Antec Fan for an Antec Case. The holes, design, and everything else is for an Antec product. It is a pain in the neck to change it out. However, it works like a charm-in an Antec Case...
