Fine so far, one high-pitched noise, low wattage,

This review is from: Antec CP-1000 80 Plus 1000W Power Supply (Black) (Personal Computers)
Installed in a P193 CasePros: - The +12v rails have been stable so far - Relatively low noise, low T at idle - cable length is nice - Solid pricing, although the CP-850 is a better deal if you can do without the extra wattage. Cons: - NOT A kW PSU, 840W on the +12v rails, to get to a kW you have to use each voltage equally. By Comparison, the Corsair TX solution (their lower-cost solution in fact, compared to their HX series) generally has a +12v rail within 20-40W of the rated value. The +12v rail is by far the most relevant power source, so calling it a kW PSU is a trick that really shouldn't fool anyone. I knew this buying it, but it's still something buyer's should be aware of. - occasionally a whiney, high-pitched noise, unsure of source - Would MUCH rather at single +12v rail, the FAQ on Antec's website pushes this as a more stable solution (4 rails), but what they mean is an easier-to-make-more-stable solution, the Corsair TX-series has perfectly stable single +12v rails, at similar price points, just check out reviews. Overall I'm happy with it, but unless you need the extra 70W I see no reason to recommend it over the TX750.

I have this in the Antec 1200 case and it's great. Antec is trying to push this new form factor and this PSU will only fit in 3 Antec cases at the moment, so be aware before you buy this. The only negative thing I can say is that it should be completely modular in my opinion, however if you have multiple components in the case then you will use a lot of the cables, so although it's not completely modular I needed all the permanently attached cables and more for my rig (I'm not even doing SLI) so go figure. Also this may be the Antec 1200's flaw but the PSU needs more peripheral connectors if you plan on using all the case fans in the case. The positives are that the PSU is very quiet and the cables are plenty long enough to route away using the cable management features of the Antec 1200 case and probably any other case as well. Also there are plenty of SATA connectors which is great for future proofing. All in all good PSU, I know it's not cheap, although you cannot get a better deal anywhere than on Amazon, but you won't regret it once you install it and boot up.

I decided I wanted to rebuild my computer into a much quieter case so after much research I bought an Antec P183. One of the biggest noise makers used to be my power supply that made a nasty whining noise whenever the computer was working hard. The P183 allowed me to purchase this specialized power supply from Antec that only fits some of their cases. But the payoff was clear, this power supply can run a lot of stuff and keep itself cool without making a lot of noise because of the form factor. So far I have had no problems at all. The psu does exactly what it is supposed to and stays nice and quiet even when the commuter is flat out running Boinc when I am not using it. Manages to power a fairly power hungry system withou breaking a sweat. Exactly what I wanted. Only minor downside is that sometimes the power on surge is enough to trip my UPS but only if I have something else on the ups at the same time - easy enough to turn that off and try again!

Big PSU (NOT standard ATX size),

I was very annoyed to open the box and discover this PSU is no where near a standard ATX size PSU. Honestly i had no idea a 'different size' existed. Granted every server I've ever built or worked on was a custom size, however with desktops????Just by other reviews you can tell this is a great PSU, but the lack of mentioning that it will fit ONLY the listed Antec cases ticks me off. The description clearly states it is designed for the new Antec cases, however it does not mention it DOES NOT fit a standard case as well. Minus 1 star for poorly stated description.

Great power supply so far but i have only had it for a month so far so if it craps out soon i can hopefully change the review but for now it looks amazing with the 1200 case. It doesn't make a lot of sound which is a huge plus.

I bought this based on Antec's great reputation for PSU's. I forgot to recall that it is not a std size. this does not mean it is long, but it is TALL and will only fit a FEW ANTEC CASES.CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sent mine back and am waiting for a refund. BTW, My case is the new Cooler Master HAF-X and it is HUGE, but this PSU will not fit it. |
