Antec NeoHE 430 - Silence is Golden!,
By KeriJane "Keri" (Chicago IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Antec Neo-HE-430 430-Watt High Efficiency Power Supply Unit (Personal Computers)
Pros: Good, solid power. Very quiet operation. Modular sleeved cables for the Tidy amongst us. Relatively high efficiency. HONESTLY Rated for 430w CONTINUOUS Power output at OPERATING TEMPERATURE.
Cons: Due to variations in the intepretation of the ATX PSU standard, earlier versions of this unit (including mine) will not run certain mainboards. The Modular Cables can induce unwanted resistance as there are 2 connectors per cable instead of 1. The PCI-e cable can be installed backwards by the clueless and cause damage to the PSU and Videocard. Another capable, HONESTLY rated PSU from Antec, this powered my Dual-Core Intel system with an ATI x800 and 3 HDDs without apparent effort. Nothing I could do could cause enough load to noticeably speed up the PSU fan or cause the slightest fluctuation in voltages. The "Motherboard compatibility problem" applies mostly to NF4 chipset boards made by 2 manufacturers, DFI and ASUS. This is shared with another High-Efficiency PSU manufacturer, Seasonic.

Great Power Supply,

So far this PS has worked great. I purchased it mainly because I was interested in having a modular power supply, which this is. (In case some don't know, everything besides the main power connector is able to unplug, so if you don't use some of the different connectors, you don't have to tie them up and find a place to put them in the case, they just aren't attached, therefore creating less clutter).
Before this, I had a Antec EarthWatts 500 PS. Only reason I grabbed this, was Amazon had a great price, and I wanted to try out the modular connectors like I mentioned before. No problems whatsoever with this or the other Antec I had. This is a 430 Watt supply, and I power a BFG 8800 GT OC, Q6600, 1TB Seagate HD just fine! Very happy with it, and it is very quiet, and does a great job.

After installing this PS my systems suffered constant random shutdowns. System would not power back up until briefly removing AC from the PS. From what I've read this appears to be an ongoing problem with the Antec NEO HE series for at least a couple years. It is evidently still not fixed.
Returned and ordered the Corsair HX520 instead.

I bought this to replace a 420 watt PS that died while I was awzy from home for a week. I confirmed the diagnosis of dead PS by swapping in an old 500 watt PS before I ordered. The unit was ordered on Thursday evening and arrived Tuesday afternoon! (Standard Shipping!)
I like the modular cables with their mesh wrapping. Very neat. The PC was drawing 7 watts with the old PS when off and 5 watts with the Antec Neo. Power draw while running with the new unit varied between 105-150 watts compared to 150-175 watts with the old PS reflecting the higher efficiency of the Neo. The Neo is also whisper quiet. Cons: None so far.

ASUSTEK A8V Delux Motherboard. Replaced an older Antec 500w that got fried when the power went on and off and on and off Christmas morning. Installation was simple and quick. I was back up and running in minutes. Huge difference in sound from the old 2 fan model, and 430 is more than enough to run my Nvidia & Soundblaster PCI cards plus stacked DVD and DVD-R drives. I've even got a 3.5 floppy for grabbing old files. I still have 3 empty PCI slots and 3 hardware slots, so we'll see how 430 works when I start pimping my machine out. So far so good. Quiet, quiet, quiet. I wish the DVD drives were as silent as this. Great product. No ASUS problems.

Don't use with Asus A8N,
This review is from: Antec Neo-HE-430 430-Watt High Efficiency Power Supply Unit (Personal Computers)
I was about to buy this based on the recommendation from silent pc review, but then I read some posts on their forum. It looks like this power supply won't boot up an Asus A8N. I gave it 3 stars because it's supposed to be quiet; however, if I had one that didn't work with my motherboard I would drop it down to 1 star.
