If there ever was a songwritter that touches the latin american culture it is Ruben Blades. This album is masterful in all respects. Nonetheless the album has its highlights, namely a simpple song with a guaguanco beat called Patria, and Contrabando. This are excellent examples of the marriage between lyrics, rythm, and melody to tell a transcending story. I give thanks to Panama for having inspired, and raised such a musician.

The music has the ability to take you on terrific mind walks. When you get get back form this journey you cant help but feel renewed.

What can I say? Ruben Blades is the best, and this is an awesome CD. But, just to be honest, I'd say that about any of the albums/CDs I have(eight so far). I just love the fact that Blades is an artist who always blends the deepest thoughts and emotions with exquisite music and expansive energy.

I especially appreciate the English translations of songs in the liner notes of this CD, as my Spanish is actually quite limited.

Ruben, has taken our hearts again with patria

Ruben is a fantastic artist, however I felt only 2 or 3 pieces (eg contrabanda and patria)really had his mark. I felt this collection was heavily influenced by the (dance/light) style of the fania all stars and less prolific salseros. He even looks like willie colon on the cover. Ruben's lyrics and musicianship is not as powerful as it is in many other albums eg buscando america, caminando, mundo, and tiempos.

It was so good I could get this high quality CD which is one of the best gig by Ruben

Seems that Ruben Blades has recorded a song, wich its old name was Cabeza de Hacha, under another title..Could you tell me the in which cd I can find this recording.. Sincerely, Priscilla
