I have installed 3 of these for friends and in each case the ClearStream1 performed better than every other indoor antenna they tried. More channels or more stable channels than before.

The C1 Convertible can mount 3 ways - set top, wall, or on a mast with the included reflector, like the C1 sold as an outdoor model (see its reviews, too). I only learned the latter after downloading the assembly instructions from the manufacturer, Antennas Direct. Also, the mfr told me that their Micron model (new Jan 2010) has the same innards and performance, but is indoor only and lacks the C1's space-age styling.

One friend's house in northeast Portland, OR is only 5 miles from the towers but in a difficult spot and he also needed a ClearStream 5 for still-VHF channels 8, 10, and 12. But at another friend's two blocks away and one story higher, the C1C picked up all the available VHF and UHF channels. Ditto at a friend's in southeast San Francisco, CA, where 7 is still VHF. The C1C amazingly also picks up UHF stations from 35 miles to the north and south. But alas, the nearby Bernal Hill blocks its view of San Bruno mountain, so even the C1C can't get the one VHF and 3 UHF channels from there.

I live about 10 to 15 miles from the HDTV transmitters around here, which is right toward the edge of what a decent antenna should pick up. I also have nearly a 40º spread between transmitters.

I went through three different highly rated antenna from Amazon. They varied in effectiveness, but in every case I always ended up with one channel where the signal was too weak. If I turned the antenna to get it, then another signal was too weak. I got very frustrated and used cable for a bit.

Then my cable frustrations outweighed the antenna frustrations again and I did a more thorough search. This antenna was highly rated on non-Amazon websites so I thought I'd give it a try. It's also said to be a "multipath" antenna which is important for the transmitter spread around here. I guess because of the way Amazon has it named, it never showed up on any of my previous antenna searches!

This antenna is a total WONDER. With minimal fussing it was picking up ALL of my local stations with 75% or better signal. Most are 90%+ I no longer have a problem with any signal being at a bad angle. No amplification needed, it just worked.

If you are looking for an indoor antenna, I highly recommend you give this one a try.

I bought this antenna to replace an indoor antenna with amplification that had begun to lose channels. Initially, I had a concern that the antenna would have better effectiveness mounted in the attic but tried it first sitting on a tabletop. Also, I wondered if this antenna would have the gain necessary to capture channels without the option of plugging it in to a power source (wall outlet).

Most of the transmitters in my area lie east about 25 miles away (my comments only apply for a tranmission radius of within 30 miles, or so), so I positioned the antenna to face in that direction and started the TV's autoscan. The amount of channels - both HD and lesser - captured by this antenna far outweigh the number found by the previous antenna. As a matter of fact, the new antenna brings in channels that I did not know existed in my area. This antenna performs better than I expected, and I would recommend it.

Pros: works in my area on a tabletop, it has a small footprint, the kit comes with multiple mounting accessories (tabletop, wall, attic, etc.), its gain does not require a wall outlet, excellent reception for transmission areas within 30 miles

Cons: none that I have found

I live in an apartment building right in Washington DC (with other apartment buildings surrounding mine) and had a pair of rabbit ears from Best Buy. I only got NBC, ABC and CBS reliably, and even then I had to move the antenna around and got interference when there was movement nearby. I couldn't even get Fox.

Now, I get all of those stations crystal clear with no interference, plus a handful of others I didn't even know were out there. And, no more having to move the antenna around. Once I found the right angle and reprogrammed the TV, I haven't had to touch the antenna. And I actually just have it sitting on the floor under the TV (which is wall mounted) using the included stand (which holds the antenna just fine, by the way. Not sure what the other reviewer's problem was with the set top stand). So I don't even have it up high and it works great.

I would HIGHLY recommend this antenna to anyone who has been disappointed with the performance of other antennas. I'm not sure why this antenna doesn't come up on Amazon when you search for antennas. I actually found it on another review site and just checked to see if Amazon carried it and was surprised to find they did.

I live in the suburbs of Atlanta and live 25 - 35 miles from the HDTV signal towers. I am using the antenna indoors as I live in a condominium. The hookup was very easy and straight-forward. When I auto-scaned for stations, I was able to pull in over 20 stations. They are all crystal clear. I find this product to be an exceptional value and highly recommend it to others. A digital tuner is needed. Most HDTV's sold today have a digital tuner built in. If using with a analog TV, a seperate digital tuner will be needed. One thing I found interesting is that cable and dish signals are compressed - resulting in a signal loss. There is no signal loss using a HDTV antenna.
