Product Description

The ClearStream Micron-R Antenna Receives Free Over-The-Air Digital and HD Programming with NO Monthly Cable or Satellite Fees. The advanced design is perfect for urban areas within 35 miles of broadcast towers. Simply connect to your TV using the coaxial cable provided, perform a channel scan, and in minutes you'll be enjoying free local broadcasts. The sleek, compact design blends with most home decor. Sleek and powerful, this high performance antenna is engineered to deliver uncompromised indoor, max gain reception. The precision engineered reflector focuses 2X more broadcast signals through the antenna. It also offers a customizable setup to meet individual preferences and reception needs. The Micron-R delivers DTV signals from widely located (spaced) broadcast towers. The Micron-R offers an extremely wide, 70 degree, beam width pattern on core UHF channels. The advanced design software allows these 10 X 11 Inches antennas to be smaller and more powerful than ever before. This leap forward in efficient design allows up to 98% of the available broadcast signal to actually reach the incoming antenna cable rather than being lost to impedance mismatches.

This antenna works really well and was incredibly easy to set up.

For me, the Leaf antenna worked much better and was cheaper than the Antennas Direct Micron-R. Am returning the antenna.

I paid full retail at a big box store and still think it was money well spent.

I rarely review items but I tested a few 'box store' antennas and thought I would share the results with you.
First, I am ~25 miles from the broadcast location in Milwaukee.
I first tried a set of bunny ears from walmart that didn't even thread into the input on my tv.
I then tried the basic RCA bunny ear antenna (RCA Basic Indoor Antenna) which did receive stations but needed adjusting with each channel. So I kept looking. I next tried the amplified square RCA antenna (RCA ANT1450BR Multi-Directional Amplified Digital Flat Antenna (Black)), which pulled in many more stations but it still needed adjusting for some stations despite its claims of being 'omnidirectional'.
I then hooked up the amplifier (RCA AMP1450R Digital Amplifier for Indoor Antenna) from the 1450 to the RCA bunny ears (RCA Basic Indoor Antenna) which actually gave me better results...it needed to be adjusted less frequently.
So I was going to settle for that setup until I was at the store and saw this Phillips antenna (Philips SDV2210/17 UHF/VHF/FM/HDTV Indoor Antenna). I liked the way the loop could be rotated independent of the bunny ears so I gave it a try.

Purchased this to improve on the 9 station reception I was receiving from the Leaf antenna. Was very disappointed. Only received 4 stations even after playing around with different locations. Also was quite large when compared to the paper thin leaf antenna. For me, the Leaf antenna worked much better and was cheaper than the Antennas Direct Micron-R. Am returning the antenna.

This works fine for UHF; the box says so. But there are 4 VHF stations in this area [plus sub-channels] which the Miron-R only gets one of...sporatically. And I'm less than 15 miles from the towers. I realized before I bought it that the box says NOTHING about VHF signals, but it was worth a try since no part of it needs AC current to work, which isn't so with another unit I have that includes rabbit ears. At least the other one gets the VHF'ers.

Just be aware of this limitation BEFORE you buy the Micron-R.

UPDATE;
Returned it. Got the Clearstream 2 instead. An improvement for sure!! (see separate review)

Easy to assemble and worked much better for me than the rabbit ears and loop that it replaced. This is a directional antenna that must be "pointed". It works best when the stations you are interested in are all in the same direction. I'm about 40 miles from the local transmitters and this antenna provides a large selection of high-definition channels.

This unit comes without an amp, and works fine for me; since your TV already has an amplifier, an amp at the antenna is really only needed to overcome cable losses if you plan extend the 6 foot cable to place the antenna remotely (like high on a bookshelf for a better line-of-sight to the broadcast transmitters).

If you do extend the cable significantly, then for better performance consider the Antennas Direct Micron-XG ClearStream UHF Indoor DTV Antenna with Amplifier and Reflector Screen, which comes with an amplifier that is placed directly at the antenna. As I write this however, that is a much more expensive option (more like $40-$70 range, rather than $10), so don't waste your money if you just plan to use the 6 foot cable supplied.

I bought the Antennas Direct Micron-R ClearStream Micron indoor w/ Reflector as a way to avoid the ever-rising fees for basic television from Time Warner Cable. They continue to monopolize my district in NYC with no solid alternative. The device works amazingly! I only really wanted the top 20 channels anyway, as just don't have much sit-down watching time. NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC and about 15 other smaller channels all come in just great--- and honestly are WAY clearer than I was getting from TWC. I had no idea how good our Samsung was for HD channels until I plugged this in. The Cable version of "HD" was about 1/2 as crisp. Stunning reception and color enhancement from the product. So glad I stumbled upon it via TVFool.com. had no idea until then. Now I plan to save about $60/month. :-)

Reviewers should state their location as location is a factor with this product. This antenna is higher priced than my other flat/thin HD antenna, yet receives less channels. I used this in the first floor of my house at the window and receive ABC, FOX, WOR. When I place it away from the window, I receive NBC and several UHF stations, but not the other network channels. I like the flat antenna better than the Micron-R because its thin lightweight design allows me to stick high on the window, whereas the Micron-R requires me to place on a a shelf or windowsill. Thought the higher priced brand would mean better reception, but does not compare to the reception with a lower priced flat indoor antenna (at least in Brooklyn).
