Simply Amazing,
By
This review is from: Anthem Lights (Audio CD)
Anthem Lights has everything you want in a music group: talent, good song writing, and catchy tunes. And they have a message of love and acceptance and sharing what they believe in. All around amazing. From the first song "Can't Shut Up" to the last "Where the Light Is" these guys show how amazing they can be. Every song seems to build on the last in some way or another to make what is by far the best Christian release of 2011 so far.Particular favorites are "Can't Shut Up" and "Outta My Mind" which are so catchy you'll be singing them in your sleep and "Freedom Into Slavery" which is a touching and mellow tune about how we shackle ourselves to the things that hold us down. Overall, a phenomenal effort from a band most people are just starting to take notice of. The only complaint is that there are only 10 songs on the album, but even then, it's still money well spent. Buy Anthem Lights now. You won't regret it.

A spectacular debut album...,
This review is from: Anthem Lights (Audio CD)
Growing up in a Christian home, over the past 20 years I've listened to everything from Sandi Patty to Red. I've had my issues with certain popular artists. Lately some seemed to be moving away from the "God-centered" ministry that they claimed and more toward reaching the lost. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but there's a fine line between ministering to the lost... and appeasing them. Now Anthem Lights... I first heard them at a summer concert series, and then again during the Story tour. I had to buy their album. Because if the four of them were each blessed with such powerful vocal abilities, surely there had to be some songwriting abilities hidden somewhere. And I couldn't believe it! Such powerful lyrics, with beautiful harmonies, powerful voices, and a call to action. A few of my personal favorite selections: 1. "Can't Shut Up"- Definitely one of the most powerful, and upbeat, songs on this album. "It's not a secret, don't want to keep it deep inside." 2. "I Wanna Know You Like That"- Lord, I want to "become a 'woman' after Your heart and not look back." I sing this all the time. I can't help it, really. It's catchy, it's sincere... and I just love it. 3. "Circles"- "Before you even know it I'm right back at the start, doing what I hate and breaking my own heart." This somewhat slower song is pretty self-explanatory, about our fall back into sin time and again. But God forgives each transgression. I find myself humming along with their harmonies... I can't stop myself. 4. "Can't Get Over You"- Another song I sing again and again. Generally I don't like slower, repetitive songs, but this one... it's so beautiful. "I love the way You love like no other... Time and time again You forgive me." 5. "Stranger"- "I am a stranger in this world, just passing through. Waiting on the Son to come down..." True. We are strangers in this world... We've made our home in Heaven. I love this song... so much. 6. "Outta My Mind"- This has more of a rock-ish, upbeat feel to it... "Get me outta my mind and into Your heart." Basically, stop being self-absorbed and start living God's plan for your life. Because "it's not about me." 7. "Lifeline"- This is definitely more rock-ish than previous songs and emphasizes the vastness and power of God. "It's over my head, but it's under Your feet." Wow. Such a powerful metaphor: God is our lifeline... how true! This song may have won me over to the rock side of contemporary Christian music. :) 8. "Lighthouse"- To be honest, I think this may be my favorite. All the songs are spectacular, but this one just really hits home with me. "Shine so they can see the Lighthouse and find their way back home." A magnificent metaphor. Don't miss this song. You'll be singing it all day... and night, in my case. :) And such beautiful voices and harmonies! 9. "Freedom into Slavery"- Wow. Just wow. I can't do this song justice by trying to explain the meaning behind the lyrics. I suppose each person has their own take on exactly how this song applies to them... How they've managed to turn the freedom they've found in Christ into some kind of slavery, holding them back. "If I didn't know that You would forgive me... maybe I would act different." 10. "Where the Light is"- This feels different than most of their other songs, more instrumental, melodic, and it crescendos to a powerful chorus, "Where the Light is, darkness can't be found," and then fades. So wonderful, full of hope and promise that there will always be a Light. "Darkness never stood a chance." A beautiful ending to an amazing debut album... Well, would you look at that... all of their songs are my favorites. :) I honestly couldn't leave a single one of them out. They're all so amazing. You won't regret a single penny spent on this album.
