We don't need 12 steps to show us how weak we've become, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Anthem for a New Tomorrow (Audio CD)
After, in his mind, the relative failure of Wiggle, Ben Weasel set out to write a proper follow up to the highly successful My Brain Hurts. What he came up with was to be the high point of the band's stint on Lookout! records, as well as an almost concept album about what it was like to be a punk in the mid-90's. With his girlfriend providing him with a seemingly endless supply of song material regarding unhappy relationships, the punk scene around him showing a mix of solidarity and polarity that seems impossible to imagine if you weren't there, and a natural knack for love songs that the average subcultural guy could relate to, Ben Weasel hit all of this topics and more on the head with Anthem. The overall simplicity of the musicianship allows the melodies to carry the songs, and the lyrics to take front seat. If you buy only one Screeching Weasel album, make it this one, and you too can find the Peter Brady inside of you.

a pop-punk staple, July 24, 2005
This review is from: Anthem for a New Tomorrow (Audio CD)
this cd is a pop-punk staple that for me personally stands out to symbolize the early 1990's Lookout! Records era of greatness. no filler, just like most of those bands, PLUS guest vocal by FAT MIKE from NOFX! why NOT buy this album?

Simply The Best, February 23, 2004
In my opinion this is not only the greatest SW album, but one of the top 5 pop/punk albums of all time. It takes the listener on a roller coaster ride through a wide range of emotions, utilizing clever lyrics, catchy hooks, and great melodies. Many will argue that the B-Side is not as good, but I disagree. This is an album I can listen to all the way through over and over again. Falling Apart, Every Night, and Inside Out are 3 of the best tracks on here, but my all time favorite is the title track in which they close this 3 chord master piece. To me it's more than just simple entertainment or music, these are songs that can change the way you look at life. This album is a lot deeper than many critics give it credit for, and a must have for anyone who is into this new generation of pop/punk influenced bands such as Blink 182. If you like the new wave of pop/punk inspired pretty boys who are dominating the charts, give this record a go, and see where those bands came from. I promise your eyes will be opened to a whole new world of music you've been missing out on. 7 STARS !!! BUY NOW !!! BUY 2 !!!
