Wake Up Wake Up

Biography

You’ve heard the cliché before. Band makes strong freshman effort, creates a buzz, begins career with a bang. Then, said band fizzles after the initial surge of life flickers out, like a smoldering flame amidst a downpour. This is the story of most, as the vast majority of bands will die quick deaths, destined to be forgotten. Only the truly talented last in this game. Only the bands that… Read more in Amazon's Everyday Sunday Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Even Close to a Sophmore Slump, October 24, 2004
By
This review is from: Anthems for the Imperfect (Audio CD)
When Flicker Records released "Stand Up" in 2002, Everyday Sunday was a pleasant surprise for many Christian rock fans.
After reading all the negative reviews about "Anthems for the Imperfect" on Amazon, I was bummed thinking that Everyday Sunday had released a stinker. I figured that they were just rushed to put another album out due to their sudden popularity. Being a big fan of their excellent "Stand Up", I decided to take a chance and just get the album anyways.

After listening to this cd many times, I'm wondering if some of the reviewers even listened to the cd more than once, or if they have any taste at all. I dunno maybe their hearing aids weren't turned on. Its hard to miss the talent and melodic beauty contained here. In my opinion this cd is just as good, if not better than Stand Up. This is no sophmore slump, and this definately doesn't sound like Relient K. Relient K is pop punk, Everyday Sunday is more straight up rock with a heavy melodic sound. There is a big difference there. I can see why fans of either band would like the other, musically they are somewhat related, but to say they play the same "rehashed" music is just ignorant.

On this release, Everyday Sunday keeps its awesome rock sound intact and then improves on it. Anthems... find ES expanding thier sound and further distiguishing their distinct style. I like both albums alot, but I think I might like this one even more. The music is both raw and melodic at the same time, with just the right amount of production and effects in all the right places. Throw that in with the matured songwriting, ES mix it up and keep it very interesting. Their love for God is still blatantly obvious, which is awesome. The lyrics explore a nice variety of the different aspects of a relationship with God. A few of the songs are more ballad-esque and are far from your average cliche ballad. The entire album is very powerful, emotional, and moving. For me it was one of those albums that really pulled me in and kept me coming back for more over and over again. There really isn't a skipable track here, which is something is rare for even good sophmore releases.

By all means do not shy away from this album due to the lame reviews posted here, you would really be missing out on a great piece of work. A solid cd from start to finish, fans of ES will be thrilled with this, and newcomers could equally start with this or their previous release. Everyday Sunday is still one of the most promising and talented new bands out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite enjoyable, June 27, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthems for the Imperfect (Audio CD)
This has been quite a worthwhile album that I have enjoyed listening to. I did not choose this CD for myself; I won it in a call-in contest on the Christian Magazine radio show "Total Axxess" with Cliff Tredway. I'll have to say it has been a worthwhile prize. If you like rock of the somewhat slower variety, this is a solid album, offering a very positive, Christian message. I don't understand other reviews claiming there are no references to Christianity -- that is obviously false and those reviewers either didn't listen to the CD before writing their reviews or simply aren't telling the truth. Ignore those reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars A band I try and listen to every Sunday, August 3, 2005
This review is from: Anthems for the Imperfect (Audio CD)
First off let me just say that at first I was not a huge fan of these guys when I heard their first album. After hearing it a few times I would have given it 3 stars. Then I saw them live in a small venue... boy do they rock your socks off! They interacted with the crowd, took requests, and toured even though it was almost Christmas. Going back home I listened to my signed copy of Stand Up & Anthems for the Imperfect I realized how much they could change their sound and still deliver awesome music & an even better live act! I highly recommend this to anyone. I can't wait for their third album!
E*S rocks!
