Not Even Close to a Sophmore Slump,
By Brandon Hagen (Arlington, Wa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anthems for the Imperfect (Audio CD)
When Flicker Records released "Stand Up" in 2002, Everyday Sunday was a pleasant surprise for many Christian rock fans.
After reading all the negative reviews about "Anthems for the Imperfect" on Amazon, I was bummed thinking that Everyday Sunday had released a stinker. I figured that they were just rushed to put another album out due to their sudden popularity. Being a big fan of their excellent "Stand Up", I decided to take a chance and just get the album anyways. After listening to this cd many times, I'm wondering if some of the reviewers even listened to the cd more than once, or if they have any taste at all. I dunno maybe their hearing aids weren't turned on. Its hard to miss the talent and melodic beauty contained here. In my opinion this cd is just as good, if not better than Stand Up. This is no sophmore slump, and this definately doesn't sound like Relient K. Relient K is pop punk, Everyday Sunday is more straight up rock with a heavy melodic sound. There is a big difference there. I can see why fans of either band would like the other, musically they are somewhat related, but to say they play the same "rehashed" music is just ignorant. On this release, Everyday Sunday keeps its awesome rock sound intact and then improves on it. Anthems... find ES expanding thier sound and further distiguishing their distinct style. I like both albums alot, but I think I might like this one even more. The music is both raw and melodic at the same time, with just the right amount of production and effects in all the right places. Throw that in with the matured songwriting, ES mix it up and keep it very interesting. Their love for God is still blatantly obvious, which is awesome. The lyrics explore a nice variety of the different aspects of a relationship with God. A few of the songs are more ballad-esque and are far from your average cliche ballad. The entire album is very powerful, emotional, and moving. For me it was one of those albums that really pulled me in and kept me coming back for more over and over again. There really isn't a skipable track here, which is something is rare for even good sophmore releases. By all means do not shy away from this album due to the lame reviews posted here, you would really be missing out on a great piece of work. A solid cd from start to finish, fans of ES will be thrilled with this, and newcomers could equally start with this or their previous release. Everyday Sunday is still one of the most promising and talented new bands out there.

Quite enjoyable,

This has been quite a worthwhile album that I have enjoyed listening to. I did not choose this CD for myself; I won it in a call-in contest on the Christian Magazine radio show "Total Axxess" with Cliff Tredway. I'll have to say it has been a worthwhile prize. If you like rock of the somewhat slower variety, this is a solid album, offering a very positive, Christian message. I don't understand other reviews claiming there are no references to Christianity -- that is obviously false and those reviewers either didn't listen to the CD before writing their reviews or simply aren't telling the truth. Ignore those reviews.

A band I try and listen to every Sunday,
By Petrov K "Human Being" (Eugene, OR USA) - See all my reviews

First off let me just say that at first I was not a huge fan of these guys when I heard their first album. After hearing it a few times I would have given it 3 stars. Then I saw them live in a small venue... boy do they rock your socks off! They interacted with the crowd, took requests, and toured even though it was almost Christmas. Going back home I listened to my signed copy of Stand Up & Anthems for the Imperfect I realized how much they could change their sound and still deliver awesome music & an even better live act! I highly recommend this to anyone. I can't wait for their third album!
E*S rocks!

Controversial???,

This review is from: Anthems for the Imperfect (Audio CD)
It seems like Everyday Sunday is such a controversial band. A lot of people were dissapointed with this album. I think they're great, and I don't mind that some of their songs aren't perfect and they're a little known group. I think it's a wonderful CD and I wasn't dissapointed at all. I think it's even better than the first. Coulda been better,

I didn't know how this album could be as good as their first, but I still bought it. I was excited because their first CD rocked. Well, there's a couple good songs on this CD... "Gypsy Girls" is a very nice melodic rock song. "Something" is probably the best song on there. It's the hardest song on the CD. He sings, and on certain parts, he screams the last word of the line. It's a fun song. "I Won't Give Up" has a great catchy chorus, and a nice guitar solo in the bridge. The rest of the songs are just like... Bleh... They are a talented band, and I believe they could have done a lot better on this record to produce an album as awesome as their first one.Their heart for God is amazing though. God bless Everyday Sunday and their ministry. And God bless their next album; hope it doesn't continue to go downhill.

A really solid effort,
By KACENAID (Colorado Springs, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews

What's with these negative reviews?? Are people actually listening to the same CD I listened to? I think that Everyday Sunday's second outing is just as enjoyable as the first, and in ways is more enjoyable. Once again, they deliver honest and catchy music that will pleasantly surprise Everyday Sunday fans. Gypsy Girl (What Love Is) is a great single that rocks out and is completely enjoyable. Herself (I Want A Girl), Freshman Year and Star Of The Show are really great quality songs that you expect from Everyday Sunday. And Untitled, Anonymous and The One close out the album really well. This is definitely a great CD, highly recommended.

Bring it on!!!,

Im confused with the previous reviewers cuz it seems like u guys didnt listen to the first cd. someone said they arent Christian, but i think this cd references God more than their first cd and like half of the christian bands out there. The cd doesnt have any of the simple, worship songs like Stand Up, but it does have very pretty melodic songs like "The One". This cd pretty much has the sound of the faster songs on the first cd, and i have no problem with that. Also, this cd does sound more punk rock like Relient k, and that is just a maturity from their last cd and i have nuthin against punk rock. The first cd had a kind of unorganized feel to some of the songs but this one doesnt at all, the singer seems to have gotten a lil better and the songs have become a little more bouncy and catchy. I really enjoyed the songs "To the Skies" and "I wont give up" which r great worship songs. I like this cd and i luv this band for their great music and willingness to be open with their beliefs no matter what, so just like they said in song 2, "Were bringin it for God so bring on the crowd!"

Everyday Sunday Everyday,
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthems for the Imperfect (Audio CD)
This is a really good CD, or so the person who reviewed before me needs to realize. Just because they choose to worship God with their music doesn't mean you should go around trashing their music. Maybe it's not your style but other people (like me) actually like it. Please don't give things bad reviews because they're not your style. Just don't listen to them and forget about it. Don't try to get other people not to buy it.

Beautiful. I don't think I'll ever get tired of this CD (though I'll probably play it enough to make most people sick of it). It was more musically advanced than their first, but similar enough that I loved it right away. With Matt Thiessen BGVing the last song, and three guys from Audio Adrenaline being the executive producers, you can't go wrong.
