Misleading Title,
By Emanuel J. Felici (Naxxar Malta) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anthology: 40 Years of Hits & More (Audio CD)
In the 14 years of building a CD collection (over 1200 titles so far), I never managed to locate a decent "Neil Sedaka Greatest Hits" compilation that covered both his ORIGINAL RCA Hits and the later ones on the Rocket Label (Queen of 1964, etc.). Browsing thru your web site I came across this title which looked like it was what I was looking for. So I made the plunge and purchased the Double CD. But I was totally disappointed. Most, if not all, the titles are Re-Recordings! Good re-works I must admit, but NOT the orignals. A shame and a pity no details to the content were available. If you want the originals DON'T purchase this!! Meanwhile I'm stuck with an unplayed CD, and hoping for the real McCoy.

This is great overview of Mr. Sedaka's prolific career and has everything a casual (or dedicated) fan will need. Despite comments by a previous reviewer, all the early RCA hits are the original recordings and sound wonderful in the excellent remaster. This compilation also contains one of his best "unknown" hits in "wheeling west virginia" which was recorded in Australia. I highly recommend this to his fans and feel sure they will not be disappointed. In summary, why buy 2 discs to get all the hits from his various labels when you can get them all at once.

I am a life long fan of Neil Sedaka, enjoying both his early works and his comeback years. This is the best collection available that incorporates both eras. It includes all the hits you came to know by this terrific entertainer. This collection showcases his writing, singing and production skills as well as his growth as a musician. Despite what a fellow reviewer wrote, these are not "re-recordings", in fact this release came out in 2004 and that particular reviewer is dated in 2001 so he must be talking about a different collection. These songs are the original versions you came to love. If you are a fan, this collection is a must.

As a long time Neil Sedaka fan,I was extremely pleased to find this collection. Aside from his own hits, there are a few that he wrote for other artists, such as"Working On A Groovy Thing"which was a big hit for the 5th Dimension. I highly recommend this for any Sedaka fan-believe me,you will love it!

I HAVE BUT ONE QUESTION,
By
This review is from: Anthology: 40 Years of Hits & More (Audio CD)
Well here we go again. Yet another Neil Sedaka collection.I just have 1 question?? Where is the song "No Vacancy?" Where is it?????? Yeh I know I could pay a couple of hundred dollars and get it on the Bear Family label; but why never on any regular cost complilation. I think it's the only major B side missing. I mentioned this to Mr. Sedaka once and he didn't know why either. |
