Anthology of American Literature covers early colonial American history, beginning with the first English settlement in North America known as Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Among the first group of settlers was Capt. John Smith who written several reports of his exploration that was published in the early 1600. In Smith's published works, his descriptions of North America was a vast land of endless bounty and nourishment, and redemption in what he described as paradise where he later met a young Indian girl named Pocahontas that he had a relationship with, and brought her to England with him where she later died of an illness.

The book covers selected works in from the early 16th century to early to mid 19th century. Dating back to the civil war, and writings from William Bradford, Thomas Morton, John Winthrop, and Anne Bradstreet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, December 22, 2010
By
Interface: Poetry and Selected Readings, Volume One, 2010

This is an excellent book to keep as a reference guide and pass along to future generations. It is very big and the print is very small. Reading glasses may be recommended but I usually read in the daylight. There are a lot of examples of good short-stories and very good poems. Many examples to follow for new and intermediate writers.

The book was not in the best condition. Some of the pages were falling out, including the cover. It's a great book overall but would've liked a better quality.

The book we ordered was received in the condition it was said to be in. We appreciate it being a true discription and would not hesitate to order from him again. Only thing is it seemed to take a long time to receive and the mailing packaging was damaged.

I used this for my literature class and thought it was going to be boring but the history behind the stories is really interesting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly what I expected, August 14, 2009

The book did come within reasonable time, however, it has no cover. Too much money for a book with no cover. Disappointed.
