great to start out with,

this is an awesome album to start with if your new to burzum!! this was my first burzum album, and after listening to it multiple times i had to go out and buy his catalog... this has his most popular songs and you can really get a feel for what its all bout instead ov spending the money for the pricy imports and not knowing any songs on them... all in all great collection ov tunes from one ov the genres BEST artists, worth the money if your new... if your not stay away from it because you prolly already own the albums :)

The sound of terror,

At long last Varg Vikernes' long running musical entity sees a best of release & while much of the sinister cacophony & brimming shrieks that's common in this style of music, Burzum's crude & raw approach still finds time to slip in ambient passages that's something akin to a film score or neo classical music yet nevertheless remains bleak & confrontational much like Burzum's controversial front man. The sound on "Anthology" is cold, brutal, & grim, & while these musical qualities certainly aren't anything remotely groundbreaking, Burzum was one the bands responsible for cementing Black Metal as a legitimate music genre & "Anthology" is highly recommended to anyone who enjoys extreme metal, noise, dark ambient, martial folk, etc. It's a healthy introduction into one of the bigger names & pioneers of the notorious Black Metal movement. My only gripe is that this compilation comes in sorta short measuring in at only 9 tracks.

Then this is the cd to start with. Great compilation from a great band. If you already own their albums then don't bother. Nothing new on here. Good intro for the interested, Great collection for the casual fan.
