Editorial Reviews

This anthology features 48 artists from within the Chinese area of influence. It is designed as a journey through what is currently happening underground, under extremely diverse forms. It also looks at the recent past and the key role of pioneers like Wang Fan, Dajuin Yao, and also Hong Kong-based Li Chin Sung aka Dickson Dee who, for almost two decades, has been spreading the word about Experimental music in Mainland China. This album was curated by Dickson Dee on Guy Marc Hinant's invitation. It includes an enlightening presentation on the short yet intense advent and history of the Chinese noise explosion,co-written by Zbigniew Karkowski and Yan Jun.

Whenever I listen to it, I would enjoy it as much as I did the 7-Volume Anthology Series. Not all the tracks I like on this set, but I would NOT be as critical as the 1-star reviewer (Notice how many people find his review helpful: ZERO!). A very good majority of the selections I like, as well as a few non-electronic works that are featured there. That's why I gave it 4 stars.

One of the parts I find unforgettable: CD 2, Track 7: the way how it starts with "BAD!". :-D

On CD 1, Track 5, I went to the Sub Rosa website, highlight the Chinese characters on the track title, and "Googled" that. The translation turned out to be "Chih-Feng Lin".

A few artists were also featured in the Anthology Series:

Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music 4 ---> "Sea-Food" by Wang Changcun

Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music 5 ---> Li Chin Sung (Dickson Dee or PNF): "Shame" AND Dajuin Yao: "Satisfaction Of Oscillation"

Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music 6 ---> "Yes or No" by Torturing Nurse.

Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music 7 ---> "Decomposition" by Dennis Wong and Sin:Net.

If you like to hear toast being scraped while a dentists drill screams in the background then this compilation is for you.
Overall, it has about as much experimental value as rubbing cosmetics into a bunny rabbits eye. I admire Sub Rosa for releasing works like the 'Anthology of Noise' series but I wish they had been more picky with this one.
