5.0 out of 5 stars The Best 20th Century Singer of Love Songs, January 3, 1999
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
This Freddie Jackson Anthology is long overdue. Such a great and underrated singer. R&B singers of today should use Freddie's music as examples of how a love song should be written and sung. Sorry, Keith and the rest of the gang. Mr. Freddie Jackson can and always will be able to eat crackers in my bed anytime.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just about perfect ... except for one omission, October 3, 2011
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
The Right Stuff did what a lot of companies (including itself) rarely do -- compile a near-complete anthology of a recording artist's prominence. In the case of Freddie Jackson, his most successful years were 1985-92 with his five Capitol Records albums.

During that period, Jackson amassed 10 No. 1 songs on the Billboard R&B Singles charts with two other songs ("I Don't Want to Lose Your Love" and "Main Course") just missing out. In addition to all the major hits (all full-length versions), a lot of Jackson's album tracks are included to give a novice a full grasp of his catalog during his Capitol run. Even Jackson's duet with D'Atra Hicks -- a singer who recorded an album with Manhattan Records -- the album track "Live My Life without You" is included.

So why not a perfect score? The anthology did not include the album track "Janay," arguably Jackson's most popular non-single song. It's all the more curious considering fillers such as "Can I Touch You" and "You Are My Love" are included. A lesser exclusion that stands out is Jackson's duet with Natalie Cole, "I Do," which unlike "Live My Life without You" was a hit single (peaking at No. 7 on Billboard R&B Singles charts) and was on Capitol's EMI label (NOTE: EMI/Capitol owns The Right Stuff Records).

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine retrospective of his 1985-93 Capitol recordings., January 8, 2007

Justo Roteta (Los Angeles, California United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
This is by far the best Freddie Jackson compilation issued to date. Freddie's 1985-96 recordings for Capitol, RCA and Scotti Bros. Records helped make him one of the best R&B crooners of all time--something which this 2-CD set proves perfectly. While limited to his 1985-93 Capitol tracks the compilation producers (thankfully) had the good sense to include album-only tracks in addition to the hits in order to give the listener a balanced retrospective of his most prolific period. If you can only afford one Freddie Jackson CD, this most definitely IS the one to get. Enjoy!
