All the early stuff of the classic punk group,
By barna_d "barna_d" (Hungary) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anthology Free Speech (Audio CD)
Excellent release from the classic British punk band of the early eighties which set new standards for the whole emerging HC, crust and grind scene, highly influential to thrash metal, too.
The socio-punk of Discharge was a representative of the "new punk" or "real punk" movement of the U.K. when the glittery new wave and the NWOBHM ruled the land. Their minimalist, short and fast, noisy rides and the lyrics - raw haikus about the injustices of war, politics and society - terrorized the ears of those hungry for this sound which had seemed to be gone with the decline of the original punk scene - just in a more brutal, more primitive form. Actually, they could play, as for their aims: speed, intensity, mad solos... This release contains ALL their official releases up to 1983 (when the original guitarist left the line-up), including the 'Why' EP and the first full LP, 'Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing'. There are extensive liner notes about the early story of the band. My only problem that the whole stuff could have fit on one single disc, but it's a double CD set, God knows why, maybe "double compilation" sounds better (and costs more). |
