5.0 out of 5 stars BEST BAND AND MUSIC EVER
I have been looking for the three albums the The Headpins put out in the eighties ever since I got a CD player and have read many reviews and got my spirits up when I read that they were going to reissue them in the spring of '99. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good collection, but 5 stars?
Come on people; is this really a 5-star album? Maybe you have to come from Canada to truly appreciate this band. I happen to enjoy both Canadian rock and bands with female vocalists, and I have to say I've heard better in both categories.

That's not to say Headpins was a bad band. Far from it. They were fun rock band, and no one can deny that singer Darby Mills...

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST BAND AND MUSIC EVER, July 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
I have been looking for the three albums the The Headpins put out in the eighties ever since I got a CD player and have read many reviews and got my spirits up when I read that they were going to reissue them in the spring of '99. But I went so far as to get ahold of a music company in Canada who told me that I should e-mail Sonymusiccanada. So I did and I encourage anyone who would like to get these albums again to contact Sony and give a reissue requset as I did. It's in there that they have a request and the more people to request the reissue of The Headpins the more likely it is to happen. Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Headpins - Greatest Hits CD, March 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
I have been a Headpins fan since I first heard the tape while getting a ride to high school back in the mid '80's from my friend. My friend had their very first original tape to which I could not find anywhere even with his help. Since that time, I had searched everywhere for anything dealing with the Headpins. It wasn't until about 1989 while visiting relatives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, checking out old record stores that I came across the "Headpins - Greatest Hits CD" in a record store on Portage Avenue. I purchased it right then and there and I am ever so glad that I did, as I have never came across the title since, even at this paticular or any other stores. I had gotten the very last CD on their shelf at that time and they haven't had it in since. I have been offered quite a bit from friends as well as associates that have heard and know that I have this CD. I won't part with it at any price though. This is a rare CD, but even rarer yet is their very first album (title unknown). You see, the "Headpins - Greatest Hits" is missing one (possibly two) original scores from their first album. If you have their very first original tape, record or {rarer yet to possibly non-exsistent, CD}, my advise to you is don't part with it at any price. I ask though that you contact me to let me know what the scores are that are missing from the "Greatest Hits" album compared to their first album. Also as you may know, the Headpins have quite a fantastic beat and rhythm that many of us Earlier Headpin Fans love, enjoy and miss. If you have any information or leads regarding any of the Headpins music and where we can aquire thier albums, let us long-time fans who have submitted our reviews here know in some way where we can get our hands onto a copy. Again, I am looking myself for any original albums, tapes or CD's prior to the Greatest Hits release. Also, I would be very interested in any books regarding the Headpins, including sheet music/music books of their songs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good collection, but 5 stars?, October 24, 2006

That's not to say Headpins was a bad band. Far from it. They were fun rock band, and no one can deny that singer Darby Mills has a hell of a voice (if a bit raspy for my tastes at times). They just don't quite measure up to what I would consider the real 4 and 5-star female rock artists of that era, like Robin Beck, Annica, Vixen (yes, Vixen) and of course Heart.

Headpins was a better than average band along the lines of Private Life, Harlow, Skew Siskin, and Chrissy Steele. One Way Records' 1995 Anthology provides a nice overview of the band's catalog. Die hard Headpins fans will no doubt find the song selection to be incomplete, but it is perfect for casual fans looking for an introduction to the band (though the recent Greatest Hits album may be a better option).

4.0 out of 5 stars There's an earlier Headpins Greatest Hits album, July 13, 2002

"grapeman_2000" (Vancouver, BC, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
The Headpins were one of my favourite bands in the 80's. I saw them live at a New Year's Eve club date in Vancouver that I believe was their last show ever.

There was a Greatest Hits album (VCK-80130) released in 1988 by CBS records. Its major fault was that it ignored the Headpins' third and final album, Head Over Heels. It also doesn't have either song from their debut in the CFOX Vancouver Seeds 2 album. The first cut, Breakin' Down, from that live album is my all-time favourite Headpins song.

It's not complete either, but it would cover most of the Headpins along with the Anthology. And I still see it for sale in local CD shops in Vancouver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, June 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
I heven't listened to my headpins albums for a couple of years, until I started reading all of these reviews.I grew up in Jamestown ND. thats where I first heard these guys. I never was able to find any of the albums after wearing out the ones we recorded from the only guy in town that had an original. I've sinced moved to Colorado and between Flea Mkts. I found 2 "Turn it Loud" albums 1 has never been opened, 2 "Head over Heels" albums, 1 "Line of Fire" album, and the "Greatest Hits" CD , and I know I didn't spend over $10.00 for all of them. I suggest that anyone looking for these albums search the pawn shops and flea mkts. I personally have never seen one in any music store.

5.0 out of 5 stars NO JUSTICE FROM RECORD COMPANIES, August 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
This CD rocks! But it does have one flaw. There are no cuts from their first album, "Turn It Loud." Anthology should mean everything. Not just a couple. I bought the CD two years ago and was thrilled when I found it, however disappointed as well when I saw nothing from "Turn It Loud." Record companies are not doing any justice by not reissuing these AWESOME albums. I have contacted Sony Music Canada : SonyMusicCanada@sonymusic.com, to request a reissue. So far nothing back from them, but I suggest you all email them and request a reissue. The more requests that they get, then the better our chances are of seeing these CDs again. If anybody out there hears about a reissue, please let me know. This was supposed to happen this spring, but I haven't seen them yet. TURN IT LOUD BABY!

IF ANYONE HAS ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING ON HEADPINS I NEED TO KNOW. I AM ORIGINALLY FROM SYDNEY,AUSTRALIA BUT NOW LIVE IN ENGLAND. I WORK IN MUSIC RADIO AND ARE DESPERATE TO GET MORE INFO ON THE 80'S BEST ROCK OUTFIT. IN 1984 I MANAGED TO GET HOLD OF A COPY OF "LINE OF FIRE", IN FACT I GOT 2 COPIES, ONE IS WITH ME NOW THE OTHER IS UNTOUCHED AND LIVING AT MY MUM'S PLACE BACK IN SYDNEY. ABOUT A YEAR AGO I MET A GUY WHO HAD A COPY OF "HEAD OVER HEELS", STUPIDLY HE LENT IT TO ME (LIKE HELL I'M GIVING IT BACK). BOTH ALBUMS ARE GREATLY CHERISHED AND GO EVERYWHERE WITH ME. I REMEMBER A TRIBUTE SHOW AND/OR A CONCERT BEING SHOWN ON U.K. TV AFTER THE PASSING OF BRIAN MacLEOD SHOWING FOOTAGE OF THEM PERFORMING LIVE. NO ONE SEEMS TO WHAT THE SHOW WAS SO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO TRACE.I'VE NEVER SEEN THEM LIVE AND SADLY NEVER WILL. IF YOU CAN HELP PLEASE GIVE ME A SHOUT. CHEERS ANDY

I really like Anthology. I am disappointed there is nothing from Turn it Loud, which I believe was the best. It would be nice if we could get Turn it Loud on cd. I am a big fan from the 80s and would enjoy listening to it.
