1.0 out of 5 stars not good
This cd is very annoying.Dont buy this cd.Waste your money on nirvana instead. They write their own songs and play their own instruments.Kurt Cobain writes better songs by himself than the people lacy dalton pays to write hers.

Lacy's voice is reminiscent of Tanya Tucker's, but richer. It may be significant that Lacy's most successful years coincided with Tanya's period in the wilderness, but both of them are magnificent singers whose music has given me a lot of pleasure.

This collection includes all her important hits from her period with Columbia from 1980 to 1986, plus three of her Universal / Capitol tracks from 1989. Among those hits is her debut, Crazy blue eyes, her signature song, 16th avenue and excellent covers of Tennessee waltz and Dream baby. There are a couple of duets here - It's a dirty job (with Bobby Bare) and Size seven round (with George Jones). Slow moving outlaw, a duet with Willie Nelson, is missing but can be found on some of his compilations. Hillbilly girl with the blues is a song that Lacy wrote about herself. Hard times, though not written by Lacy, is clearly something that she understands through bitter experience.

This is by far the strongest compilation yet released of Lacy's music, but there are still plenty of gems that have yet to appear on CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hillbilly Girl knows The Blues, June 10, 2000
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
Those Crazy Blue Eyes, those mavericks that don't settle down. That Hillbillly Girl With the Blues. She's been beating those Hard Times with that voice that ranges from a sexy whiskey voice to a Whisper that tingles your spine.

Lacy can bounce you around and get your foot stomping or she can share a broken heart with you. She is raucus and she is mellow. She can growl or purr like a kitten.

Anthology puts her best together. Crazy Blue Eyes has to be the best of the lot but how do you pass up Tennesee Waltz, Hard Times, Whisper and my second favorite Hillbilly Girl with the Blues.

Lacy is a true queen of country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect !, June 20, 2010
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
This is a very desirable set of Dalton's music to have. If you love the intrigue and warmth in her earthy, whiskey voice, and her ease of drawing you into the stories she sings, this is a must have 20 track "Anthology"! Twenty one songs are here, although, "The heart" and "Hard luck ace" are together. This is a great collection of her career. Lacy J. Dalton had a string of hits make the country chart from 1979 to 1990. Here are 21 of her 24 charted singles.
This c.d. starts with her first single, "Crazy blue eyes" in 1979, continues with 7 top 10 hits, 10 top 20 hits, and finishes with her last hit in 1990, "Black coffee".
FOOTNOTE: If your a Dalton fan that is looking for ALL of her singles, NOT included here are:
1. "Windin' down" 1983.
2. "The night has a heart of it's own" 1985.
3. "I'm a survivor" 1989.
4. the complete version of "The heart" 1989.
5. the complete version of "Hard luck ace" 1989.
One other noteable song is "Wild turkey", the b-side of "Everybody makes mistakes" in 1981, THAT is a GREAT Dalton song!
It seems you can't get very many of her hits together any place else.
All of this c.d. is charted single releases, and excelent sound of the original recordings. This is a great compilation!.

"when you think you've reached the end, and that will be the beginning."
Lacy J. Dalton says this at the end of her "Listen to the Wind" on this wonderful anthology. Excellent CD, wonderful songs, speaks to me, to all of us who have dreams!

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest hits plus more!, August 14, 2005

After listening to sound bites of this cd, I knew I had to order it! It contains most if not all of Lacy's big hits, plus some extra tracks. At first the song "Tennessee Waltz" seems strange as compared to the original by Patti Page 50 years ago, but it grows on you, and you remember that it's Lacy's version. I wish SONY had given credit to the male volalist on "It's a Dirty Job" - the voice sounds familiar, and he helps make the song. If you're a Lacy Dalton fan, buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Anthology by Lacy J. Dalton, August 8, 2005
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
This is truly a sleeper: a great CD that most country fans have overlooked. On various songs, Dalton equals Emmy Lou, Wynnona, even Tanya Tucker. "Sixteenth Avenue" is a classic--a great song with great lyric. I ordered the CD just to get that song; the fact that the other cuts are so good is a pleasant surprise. I recommend this one very highly.

No one compares to Lacy's magic with lyrics and melodies. Her whiskey flavored voice just keeps improving with age. Her newest CD, The Last Wild Place, is incomparable.
