1.0 out of 5 stars I expected more from the lads...
...the usual "hits" are there but, alas, far too many middle of the roads tunes and nothing new for the dedicated following of fans still passing the dutchie.

Long before the Melody Makers, there was the Waite & Grant brothers along with lead singer Dennis Seaton, a.k.a The Musical Youth. The Musical Youth crossed all generation borders with their version of reggae, rap, and a little bit of soul. Best known for their smash hit "Pass the Dutchie" "The Youth of Today" "Wat'cha Talkin' Bout" "Unconditional Love," with Queen of Disco Donna Summer and "Sixteen," with former Shalimar group member Jody Watley. This was a time when reggae music was at it's best. This was some of the best music and some of the best years of music. They brought us the best with their musical talents and wonderful songs.

RIP: Patrick Waite...we'll always miss you!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best, February 7, 2004
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
To tell you the turth, i started listening to this talented musical youth stars ever since when i was about 10 years old that was as far back as 1988, i was so much in love with their music to the extent that any time its been played on air then and am at home, i'll just halt whatever am doing and stay glue to the radio set, infact they were just like gods to me.

When i later grew older i had to start searching for their album in order to get my own copy but as much as i tried it proved abortive because no studio seems to have their album anymore, it pained me so much becuase i really miss the sweet sensatonal voice of those kids. i now decided to try the net to see if a could get them luckily i did thanks to amazon, i listen to their sample music and it was just like those good old days coming back to me. These boys are just the best and i tell you no body who lsitens to this music will be able to resist them they are just wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys keep me skanking all night., August 16, 1999

Not too many people know Musical Youth for the songs that they did. Actually most people know the songs that they wrote that other groups remade. What a shame. They keep on jamming in my music collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Look Back At The 80's, September 29, 1998

I can't believe that I forgot about one of the best one or two hit wonder bands of he 80's. Musical Youth captured the spot light in the Wedding Singer with Past the Duchie. If you are an 80's fan this is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars pass the dutchie, January 25, 2000
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
I think this cd is so not appriciated. it took me forever to find it, but sence I have, I can't stop listening to it! It's classic reggae with a youthful flavor added to make it one of the most original of it's kind. If you like old school reggae or dance hall, you'll love this cd! Have a listen...it may just bring back memories...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Musical Youth are very original sounding & gone!, October 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of the musical youth since 1982. The song "Pass The Dutchie" was so unusual but fresh. I remember not understanding a single word of what Kelvin was singing, but I would try & sing the songs anyway. I'm sorry to hear that Patrick has passed away! Where is Kelvin, Michael, Junior, & Dennis today?

5.0 out of 5 stars Youth Of Today, April 21, 2004

This is just one wonderful album with tunes that will make you happy! No hardcore reggae, but truly sunshine music anyway. You might even find out that you know more songs from these lads than you ever thought! Of course there's the worldwide smash hit "Pass The Dutchie" and the follow up "Youth Of Today", but do you recall "007", "Tell Me Why" and "16"? I think you will, when you hear this album. It's almost exactly both albums on one cd, leaving out just two tunes from the "Youth Of Today" LP, namely "Rub'n'Dub" and "Gone Straight". A must have for those who remember they liked Musical Youth back in the days and for those who like their reggae light, but in good quality.

More info on Musical Youth to be found on www.musicalyouth.net from summer 2004!

Musical Youth's Pass The Dutchie is my favorite song EVER. I want it to be my wedding song someday. If my fiancee doesn't want us to use it, then I'm not marrying her!
